Who has WaMu?

I work there so I wouldnt bank anywhere else. Seems to me they have the best free checking account. Also wamu is pretty different. Google "occasio."

For checking great. For savings, bleh. Pretty good for ATM's.

So I closed the account and got a better savings account. I don't have good ATM choices though.

Like it.

I have a Platinum Account and some CDs.

Now, I live in a small town where everyone gets treated well so this might not be a good recommendation. It is not unusual for me to walk into the bank and be the only customer there.

I have no complaints.

I don't, but I'm going to have to open a new checking account and I'm thinking about WaMu.

There have been enough commercials about it. 😀

We banked with WaMu years ago when we lived in Washington. When they first came to Kahleeforneeya in the 90's, we were some of their first new customers. Like them better than any other bank we've ever used...great place, friendly people.

They don't screw you over?

I have BECU, but use WaMu atm whenever BECU atm is not available. I like the fact that WaMu doesn't add a surcharge to your atm transaction.

do not overdraft using their debit card, they will ding you bad. there was an article on how they make a great deal of money off this. like they'll rearrange the order of charges so the largest purchase will be processed first so the rest will each rack up more overcharge fines. you could buy a pack of gum and they'd ding you with a fine of 20? bucks, the worst part is it has no warning, the card keeps working. they claim it is for customer benift but the reality is this kinda thing mostly happens to lower income folk. kinda shady. other banks probably do this too.

I've experienced the same problem with US Bank. I suspect most of them do the same thing.

My only real CC (non-debit card) is with WaMu. So far, I'm loving them and they gave me a full year of 0.0% APR which is nice.

That is mostly untrue. Yes, banks make money from overdraft charges thats just how it works. But in no way does Wamu stack the charges to fall in the most benificial way. The charges hit the account depending on when the merchant sends them to the bank. In that article that old woman got screwed by her daughter not the bank. And she could have gone in and filled out the paperwork and got her money back, a relatively easy process. Also for most normal people who dont have 1200 spending sprees when they have no money, if you bounce a check wouldnt it be better to hacve the check covered and be assessed a fee than have it not covered and assessed a fee and then get hit with fees from whoever you wrote the check to and then get hit by another fee from the bank when it tries to go through again and you still dont have the money? Its true that in some cases when used irresponsibly the overdraft limit can screw you over, but it is helpful for the occasional accident. Low income arent targeted, they are inherently prone to overdrafting their accounts due to maintaing a low balance, and being generally less educated and having less knowledge of how the bank works.

WAMU is good but not many around.

BoA rocks. I haven't found a reason to switch to WAMU yet. Sure I love WAMU's generous policies, but without many ATMs nearby, I'm not switching just yet.

How can you like Bank Of America? They close early, their customer care center isn't open after like 8 pm, and they charge a fee for EVERYTHING, and are always trying to upsell....

Wamu is OK. Their online account access always seems to be under maintenance when I need it though. It's uncanny. I've never seen a site doing maintenance so often. There are two Wamu's within 1/4 mile from my house, which is nice, but when I'm out of the area they are tough to find. At least when I had Wells Fargo, there were like 47 within a two block radius of every place I visited.
