<< WOW, all the big players have the asus boards, shucks cause i was hoping for results from the msi 645 and gigabyte 8srx, geuss i will havta spring an extra $30 on an asus board then. >>

I have a MSI 645 Ultra and have been running my 1.6a (wire modded) @150 FSB for some time. Rock solid. But beware of the defective cpu temp sensor on this board, at least on the 1.0 rev. As heat is not really an issue with the Northwoods its not that big of a deal but its still annoying.

I just wanted to say I'm part of the 150 club now :)

P4 1.6A@2.4ghz (150fsb)
P4B266-C
Stock fan and heatsink (using AS3 instead of the tape however)
1.6v
2x512 Samsung PC2700 (Set for CL2, etc).
Idle 29-32, Load 44-45 (Case temp of 26)

CPU: Northwood 1.6A @ 2.65Ghz (166 x 16) @ 1.71 - 1.75v (using Sandra 2002, don't know why the vcore fluctuates)
Heatsink/Fan: Swiftech MCX478
Memory: Samsung DDR333 - 2 X 512MB, fastest timing
MB: MSI 845 Ultra ARU
Here are some benchmark pix Pic1, Pic2, Pic3, Pic4

I'm trying to find which motherboards have 1/5 divider.

very nice chiangm!

I'd like to go for 166fsb, but I'm curious as to what vcore is too high. 1.6v is too high for me already. 1.65 would be 10% out of spec, and just doesn't seem good long term. As long as the CPU lasts at least 18 months I'd be happy. Just wonder how much is too much.

<< Well, i'm almost about to purchase an 1.6a northwood, but i really want to hit 2.4 ghz (150mhz fsb). Who has theres at this or higher? If so, what mobo do u have and what cooler do u have on it? >>

Not to marginalize your post, but since we are a community of intellectuals I mind as well bring this up. You should really take an effort into writing your posts; by effort I mean grammar--this seems to be a 'norm' nowadays. We geeks get made fun of as it is; we don't need bad grammar to be one more thing for people to make fun.

there = To, into, or toward that place. e.g. Go over there.
their = The possessive form of they. e.g. This is their house.
they're = The contraction of they are. e.g. They're in that car!

This is out of respect for all of us who have spent years toiling in school.

I think anything below 1.8v is safe, and of course good CPU cooliing is essential.
Please note: at 166 fsb, PCI is running at 41.5mhz and 4x AGP is running at 332mhz (83 x 4).
Unless your motherboard has 1/5 divider, it would be too much stress on your PCI or AGP cards.

got mine upto 140fsb on default voltage.

waiting for my p4b266-c board to get higher since my P4S333 wont run above 142fsb stable.

Not only do you get computer questions answered here but also grammer and sentence structure lessons. Got to love this place. :D

Ok, I will watch my grammar. I am about to buy an Intel Pentium IV 1.6 (Williamette) with MSI 645 ultra for $150 instead of getting the northwood. Any thoughts on how high the overclock will be: 115mhz fsb? I would love to get the northwood instead, but it will cost me $70 more.

Just put together a system with a P4 1.6a

My Asus P4S333 really overclocks well. I've successfully booted into windows with up to 165 FSB, but couldn't get it stable without raising the voltage more than I'm comfortable.

I ended up with a rock-solid system at 151 FSB, for 2.42 GHz. (Prime95 overnight w/no errors.)

Stock voltage and standard retail hsf.

Gotta love that.

For those thinking of a P4B266, take a look at the Epoc 4BDA or 4BDA2+ (with RAID). This board has a PCI/AGP lock that will keep the PCI/AGP @ 33/66 no matter what bus speed. It also allows 3:4 mem ratio @ any FSB. This is a feature that is sorely lacking in the ASUS. With this board, you can run 1.6A @ 150 FSB, 2.4 GHz, 3:4 mem ratio for a mem bus of DDR 400. With the p4B266, you are stuck @ DDR 300. My 1.6A/Epox/Samsung will run this setup, but I'm not crazy about the 1.7 Vcore to get my 1.6 that high. I run it 144 FSB, 2.3 GHz, 1.575 Vcore, 384 MHz DDR.

I built a friend a 1.6A system using an ASUS P4B266 and 2 sticks of Samsung PC2700 256MB DDR. Stock Intel heatsink and fan (AS3 instead of the silly thermal pad), and sparkle 300W PS. Very stable at 150FSB (2.4 Ghz). Windows can boot at 2.5 Ghz but not stable. System running turbo1. That samsung DDR is awesome.

Update: I did an overnight "burn in". It seemed to help. I'm now running 2.4 GHz! The current setup is:

1.6A @ 600 MHz FSB (150 MHz)
1.65 Vcore
3:4 mem ratio
400 MHz DDR
PCI/AGP lock @ 33/66

I get ~ 3050 Mem BW bench in Sandra. This Epox board, the 1.6A and the Samsung mem are a nice combo.

Temps are much cooler where I live this week. We went from that heatwave to a cool spell. This may have something to do with it. I'll know once it warms up again

Does anyone have tips on optimizing my new microstar 645 ultra (software wise) in winxp? I have a running williamette now (picked it up as a good deal, decided to spring for this first, northwood in the later future) 1.6ghz @ 1.93 ghz.
