Who here has their own domain name and if so, what do you do with it? Also, how'd you come up with the name? How much did registering the domain cost, and which host did you decide to use - and why?

I suddenly have the uncontrollable urge to register a domain.

I came up with the name because the name is my name (well, first initial, last name.com)

I paid the full network solutions price to register it, because when I bought it, they had the monopoly on registrations (so $70/two years). I transfered to OpenSRS and paid like $15/yr. I own it through 2k5 now.

I use my old employeer for hosting. It's a small ISP, which in my opinion, have the best service

I tend to agree with you there. Small ISPs, or friends that own small businesses - usually provide top notch service. :)

So any suggestions on what I should register? Something that leaves a little flexibility as to what the content could be.. :p

All of my domains are in my sig.

I reccomend
Go Daddy and Name Cheap to register your domain.

Both are less than $9 a year.

How do you manage with your own host? On your residential connection or what?

I've worked on this website, this website and this website. 2 out of 3 of which are on the server I'd be using for my new registered domain.. and the first one will be transferring soon.

I want to register a domain for myself (above were/are all work projects) as a personal project.. I'd have pretty much unlimited everything on the server, but I need a good idea for domain name, etc.. I'd probably share it with either a friend or my cousin, helping with some coding

http://www.jaymefall.com/. At the moment I am clueless about what to put on it. It wasn't very hard to think of the name, because it's my actual name :). I did it so I could learn more about how hosting works and so I could host it myself. I used godaddy.com to register it, it cost $8.95/year. I am hosting it myself with Slackware 8.1

dood, that second one sucks horribly.
When it comes to work, you have to do what the client wants, even if what the client wants sucks.
that's not what I mean. You have just two links from the start page...and both are broken!

That's because I haven't put up the rest of the site yet. ;)

www.mikeroth.org - it's my name, so the decision was a no-brainer.

I host with phpwebhosting.com - $9.95/mo, but it's worth it, great service, for the most part. I am thinking of switching soon, however, because the servers are quite slow many nights.
