Who has the right of way when two cars change into same lane?

Say there are three lanes. You are on the far left and another person on far right. Both of you want to change into the middle. Who would have the right of way? The person slightly in front or behind? BTW, this applies to highway and public streets.

Whoever is driving the bigger vehicle. I.E. Suburban wins over Geo Metro.

If the cars are of similar size, then the yuppier one. I.E. BMW 5 series wins over Taurus.

😉

Argo, that's what I assume too. I just hate driving on the freeway and is about to change lane but some bastard ahead of me changes too without signaling and never looks back to check. Twice I almost got into an accident in that situation and the other driver NEVER even knew what could have happened if I didn't swerve back to my lane. They just drive along like the world is so dandy.

Actually, I would imagine otherwise. I highly doubt the owner of a BMW would want to have his car scratched by a taurus 🙂

The one on the left. If they were to crash, the driver in the right car would die first, since he's on the collision side.

However, if an American car and an English Car were to change into the same lane, the cheaper car would have the right of way.

<< Neither. You're not supposed to turn into the middle lane, you're supposed to turn into the lane closest to you. >>

I think you misunderstood the original post. The cars on are a multilane freeway. Car A is the the left lane, car B is in the right lane. Both cars switch into the center lane at the same time (and into the same space). Which car has the right of way?

Lethal

The guy slightly ahead regardless which lane, course I could be wrong.

Alternatively:
The one that gets there first.
The one in the more tank-like vehicle, braver, or more pyscho will prevail.

I love being in my Festiva in this situation. I always win as it would be quite embarrassing and more expensive for a BMW to collide with me in a No-Fault state. Always worth the premium hike to watch the other drivers face during the inevitable event!

BTW the car ahead would have the right of way as fault will go to the car behind. Same situation if I slam on my brakes for a poor lil kitten crossing in front of me and the guy behind me rear ends me.

Actually, they're both supposed to stop, get out of their cars, have a friendly round of rock-paper-scissors, and the best two out of three wins.

At least that's my understanding.

Hahaha...

The left has priority, exits are on the right side and them needing to make an exit outweigh any priority you have to go into the cruising lane(middle lane).

ah im getting mixed answers. one said the person not masturbating has the right way, another said it's the one ahead, and another one said it's the one on the left. who is right???

I see there is no set in stone answer here and it is rather controversial..

I'd say a semi. Even a biggest, baddest Suburban gets squashed like no tomorrow.

<< Whoever's not on a cell phone and/or masturbating has the right of way. >>

Damn! I never will have the right of way.:|

try to avoid switching lanes when you are parallel to another car 2 lanes away. That's one of the best way to avoid accidents. It's common sense. 🙂
