I've heard people talk about who's got the fastest system and stuff like that. So, for a change how about this:

Who has the PC with the slowest configuration?

As for me, I have a Pentium-133, 16MB RAM, 1.7 GB HD, Opti 931 Audio Carc(ISA), 430VX intel MB, 1MB video card, 12X Creative CDROM. I bought it about 3 yrs back. I'm still using it even though I get really irritated with its slow speed.

Think you can beat me at this? Think you have an even slower PC? If yes post here and write the configuration and how old is it.

I have three working machines. Right now, I'm on a Athlon 650. I'm setting up my Celeron 300A (o/c'd to 464) for my 84 year old Mom. I still have a functional 486 DX-4 w/ 16 MB of RAM on DOS 6.22 and Win 3.11.

The old critter works great and cruises the net just fine, except on resourse hungry sites using stuff like <ahem> Cold Fusion. It's pretty slow running around AnandTech.

Every now and then, I go looking for old 286's. They're dirt cheap and great for controlling NC drill machines and other DOS based, single task, dedicated jobs. In these applications, they don't need more that 40 MB hard drive and 1 MB of RAM.

My dad's computer is still a 486 DX-2/66 w/16 MB. Running Windows 3.1.

My computer hardly fits the bill, though, since it does 1001 MHz quite nicely.

I have an ENIAC in my basement, but the damn thing uses up too much power so I had to unplug it.

I have an ATARI 800 hotted up with 2 5 1/2 floppy drives ( 612 k of course) and a 300 baud handset mode. Epson 500 printer and a total of 8M of memory with upgrade.

An Epson 286.

Have a 386 with 8M of ram and a 170M HD. 14.4 external Viva modem.

Still use my 486dx-133 with 2 420M HDs and a 33.6 modem. Runs INET fine with windows 98.

Oh, yeah, a laptop and pentium for everyday but you wanted to know arcaic. Should see what I dont have anymore, Like a Burroughs 3500 mainframe, card punch, tape drives, ect and the UNIVAC drum memories. Anybody remember those???? Well, just maintained those, didnt own them.

Anybody need a good 386/486???

BigVince,

Not sure, saw the movie a long time ago but dont think so. Maybe a Trash-80 or a Commmodore. I think I would have recognized an Atari and remembered it. Always thought it was better than an Apple at that time with Daisy chained perifs and so forth but just no software avail. Worked for BECKMAN INSTRUMENTS and saw one od their boxes in ET. Does that count??

Watch out for merkins.

In my basement I have a Radio Shack Model II computer. This was their business computer. It has 32K of RAM, no hard drive, black and white monitor 12 inch, and uses 8 inch disks (SSSD). CPU was 8080. It cost $5995 back in 1981. The word processor Scripsit cost $299, Visicalc was another $199, and Profile (The database program) was another $299. The dictionary for the word processor was $119. There was a 8 meg hard drive option for this computer, but being that it cost $6000, very few people purchased it. The dos was called TRSDOS. Luckly it was CPM compatible which allowed you to run other generic programs.

A few years later, Radio Shack came out with a 64K model II computer, and then added DSDD drives and called it a Model 12. Then then made a model 16 computer, and then a model 6000.

GirlFriday,

You consider that bad? It's better than my system. Wish I had a faster system. I'm going for a major upgrade in a couple of months. So, I guess I have to get on with this system for now.

Many people replying to this thread said they have two or more systems, other being faster. But I have only this one system and I use it for all purposes. And sometimes it seems to take forever in completing a task, especially when i open a couple of windows while surfing or while using psp , dreamweaver etc.. :(

I think the fact that the ENIAC drains so much energy that it could dim the lights of an entire section of Philadelphia kind of eliminates it from the Personal Computer category.

Deamon-Xanth--

How would you like to upgrade that 386 to a 386DX-40 MB with 8 megs of ram and a 387 math co processor of course. I could also be talked out of the ~170 Meg HD to go with it.

Im easy. OOPS, just reread your post and saw it was a laptop. NEVER MIND! but im posting this anyway for the credit. Hee Hee

It's not exactly a PC, but my father still uses a TI calculator from the early 1970s to do all of his scientific calculations "Old Faithful."

I still use an original IBM PC 8086 with 640K memory and a 360K floppy drive, no hard disk. The computer is just used to record measurements from an electronic scale so no reason to upgrade it. It does have a hercules graphics card in it though.
So at some point someone must of upgraded it.
