I was so excited last weekend when I went from 2Mb D/128Kb U to 3Mb D/256Kb U! But that wasn't the coolest thing. I went from paying $59.95 to $39.99/month! 50% increase in my download speed AND $20 less a month. AWESOME! So now my current connection is 3M D/256K U. I know I ain't the fastest in the world, but I'd like to see what everyone has.

Now let's be more specific here. What speed do you have, at home. I didn't list the upload speed in the poll because...well, I'm a lazy bastard. But whenever you post, DO put your upload speed.

Alright guys, PhasmatisNox provided a good bandwidth tester. Use it to test your speed:

Bandwidth Tester

High speed bandwidth tester:

Bandwidth Tester 2 <= For people who are too fast for the first test. ;)

Home - 3mb/768k
Work - T3 out / T1 between locations (yes, I get to manage the bandwidth any way I feel necessary. :))

I've got 5 Mbit down 1 Mbit up cable (and yes, I actually reach those speeds... 625 KB/s down and 125 KB/s up) for $39.95/mo.

Lets limit this to home connections only, no work or dorm rooms since colleges have t-3 and greater lines set up for them. I also work for a major telecom with oc lines into the campus I work at, so it really wouldn't be fair....

I have 6 mb down, 608k up, $39.95/mo at home.

internet2 is a seperate network. it connects all of the universities and governments and stuff and is strictly for their use. to access this site you go through the regular old internet. my school, njit, is connected to internet2 and im still trying to find out how to get access to it....if i do it wont be through my pc at all. probably some lab somewhere i wont be able to touch the box.

Except for a slightly faster upload speed mine's the same as yours. I have to pay $45.00, though. That is until the bastards at TimeWarner raise it like I'm sure they will.

It doesnt matter that its the fattest pipe if its a 1/2 centimeter long.

Mine's probably around average: 3Mb/400Kb, I think. I get 350KB/sec from good servers

I get 9Mb up and down. Check your settings and make sure your computer is up to snuff.
When we migrated computers that were tweaked for DSL, we got about 1-2Mb up and 7-8 MB down. Once we tweaked them for synchronous, we got full 9+Mb up and down on the Athlon 1600+ and the P4 2.4. A P3-500 pulled 6Mb, the P2-266 (I'm impressed he had it so long) notebook got 3-4Mb and a P150 (God knows why) got 1-2Mb. I haven't tested the PM1.7, the PM 1.4 since they've only just got in, but I'm sure they're up there. This is through a router, btw.
First three months were great. We got free internet (promotion) and we averaged 800+GB/month running two servers and hosting random files. After that, living under the cap has been a pain.

the company i work for has the fattest pipe. we have 4 gigE's, an OC48, and various T3's all blended via BGP. not to mention we are in a building that acts as the midwest's largest meet me destination, so everything is super local.
