I don't know who is currently, but I do remember players from not too long ago. Darrell Green in his prime, maybe a little more then ten years ago(he only retired a couple seasons back), was the fastest thing on the field. Vick is bigger, stronger, & maybe even quicker. Green could of beat him down the line, but not much else except cover him on an option play. Another player that comes to mind more recently is Az Hakim. Not now though, when he first came up. He was the fastest offensive player I saw out there. He had such a burst. Got banged up too easily, & that's that.

maybe OT, but I heard Ohio State linebacker AJ Hawk ran a 4.4 at NFL tryouts.

pretty quick for a linebacker i think.

I think Michael Bennett of the Vikings had the fastest 40 time?

None of it matters without your pads on.

I think Deion ran a 4.19

Deion Sanders was decently fast. What made him great was his agility & quickness. He made people miss on returns, he didn't run past them. He got to the point of almost blanketing the wr, without touching them.

And seeing all 3 every week with pads I think they're probably the fastest players in the league.

The distance is too small.

Why run a dash when technically you're finished before you start?

If anything, the distance is too long. For sports, a 10 or 20 yard/meter dash is even more important than the oft-cited 40 because they put way more importance on quickness and "burst" of speed, whereas the 40, for sprints, is a rather long one.

D.Hall on Atl is generally regarded as the fastest guy in the league..

M.Bennett was a 100M NCAA champ...not sure on his 40 time

Deon's 40 time back in the day was in the same range as Hall's...

no way in heck L.Coles ever ran a 4.1...maybe when he was running out of the Wal Mart parking lot after getting his free clothes....but not on a track...

I think Madden puts Randy Moss as the fastest that I can remember, Hall is like 98 :)

I think they are so crowded at the top that you couldn't pull out one as the fastest.

Do they time the 40 with a stopwatch a the combine or a more sophisticated method?
