those numbers 87-89-91 mean only that the higher octane, the slower it takes to burn. That is good for high-powered cars, otherwise lower grade gas explodes too quick causing timings to go off or something :p

87 in north america == 95 RON. I forget what the american system is called though.

Otherwise, gasoline is gasoline, UNLESS it is a high ethanol/methanol blend, which some brands are.

Thats right, if a gasoline has some ethanol mixed in you will get slightly lower mileage than just pure gasoline. In Texas they sometimes have gas with 5-10% ethanol which can lower my mileage by roughly a mile (depending on my highway/city driving). In Louisiana I seem to get better mileage because ethanol is never/rarely blended in.

As others have said Gas is gas. All comes from the same place in most areas. If you want to be sheep and believe marketing, like some of you do, then buy XYZ brand gas that cost more and pay for their marketing budget.

Since my new MS6 requires 93 octane or higher, and will actively kill partial boost with 91, and all boost with 87, I will probably try and get Shell V-Power if I can since it's 94. Otherwise, I'll get whatever 93 is cheapest...

Octane does not equal quality. Using higher octane than what your car needs is only wasting money and could throw off your timing.

I saw a unmarked tanker truck at wally world dropping off gas where they were selling it for $2.15, then at my local Shell station down the street where they were selling the same gas from the same unmarked tanker truck for $2.39 a few days later.

Same damn truck, same damn gas, different prices between the two go figure because were told there no price gouging and your supposed to get better gas when buying from name place like shell, BP, and such. Arnt you :p

Anyone in tune with their car can definitely tell the difference between Arco gas and other gas. BTW I get my best mileage with Chevron by 2-3 mpg.

My buddy had an old POS accord that would run terribly on anything but Chevron. Not sure what the difference is if there is any, but that was definitely true.

Okay people, most gas in a city comes from the same plant. From there the brand difference is their additives and the individual stations tank quality.

As far as octaine it's not quality it's a flashpoint indicator.

I have no loyalties when I buy gas. What ever is the cheapest around at the time. I've purchased gas from Meijer, Sam's Club, 7/11, BP, Speedway, Wesco, Mobile, Admiral, Shell and probably one or two more stations I can't think of at the moment and I've never noticed a difference.

I notice a 2 mpg drop if i get gas at someplace like Wawa or Sheetz compared to say Sunoco or something.

I've read that it's more the station itself than the brand. In some articles I've read, they state that newer stations will have "cleaner" gas because their pumps and tanks won't have as much junk built up inside of them. The result is cleaner gas with fewer impurities.

It makes sense, but not really sure how much of an actual impact it has.

They run the gas through filters.

I usually try and stick with Shell, Thats most likely because no other top tier vendors are close by according to the posted list. The V-Power touts the additives but the same additives are in all the shell octane ratings. Mid grade seems to get the best bang for the buck in my car.

All the companies ship their gas through the same pipelines and the gas they take out may not even be produced by them. The only difference is the additives they add before delivery to the gas stations.
