I've seen unattractive guys with hot girls... never the other way around. If the man has a strong personality (funny, confident, alpha male leadership skills, etc.) and can dress and style himself decently, he can get beautiful women, even if he isn't an alpha male in a physical sense (good lucks, tall, etc.).

But that's because nobody likes Andy Dick. I guess nobody likes Rosie either though. I think the OP should specify ugly-but-charming, 'cause ugly assholes always fail...man or woman.

The question is - HOW UGLY?

I mean, just standard ugly? Or, like, butt-fuggin-ugly?

Because if you're just standard ugly, I'd say the man is better off. Women seem to be willing to take a chance on ugly men as long as they're well behaved and funny. I'm not ugly, but my girlfriends are always much better looking than I am, and I figure it has to be because of my personality.

It's funny how everybody just assumes "worse off" in this context means dating/sexuality.

How about professionally? If it's attractive female professional vs. unattractive female professional, the attractive one is always going to have a leg up. Same is true for men, but I think it's magnified with women.
 
Men are more attracted to physical traits.
Women are more attracted to security (money) and emotional traits

When personality is thrown in.......

that ugly man better be rich, and that ugly women better not be bitchy

take an interest in not doing the things that put them in that position. stop being fat and nerdy and you will get laid.
 
If the sole point of being ugly or not is how frequently you get laid, then probably the man; however, a man has a greater ability to compensate, imo. An ugly man that's successful ($$), talented, funny or just generally has a great personality will still pick up a lot of women, but women don't seem to get the same privilege.

So, on the whole, I think women. I think women have a greater expectation of being pretty where men can generally get away with a lot of "nuances" to their appearance and still not have issue.

I think its relavent. She's obviously the ugly man in this argument and so she found a hot trophy wife. This confirms my thoughts that ugly woman has it off worse.
 
I would say ugly women just because men are not expected to look attractive and are generally treated the same way whether they are attractive or not. I'm not trying to say that being an attractive man doesn't have the same kinds of advantages as an attractive woman, but I am saying that women have more disadvantages by being ugly.

Thats what I mean. She has circumvented the conventional rules. The hot man is not available, so she'll go to the female market where other traits are more valued.

I don't actually think people turn gay like that...I'm just saying that the lesbian dynamic can be compared to the ugly man going after a hot woman scenario.
