Public workers usually have better pension plans, often better medical plans, and don't work quite as hard as their private sector counterparts, but private sector workers usually get paid better, get other "perks" that public employees don't get, so it's kind of a wash IMO.

I'd go public... seems to be similar pay (unless you're in the upper echelons of the private sector) plus better health care and better retirement -- and best of all, the same people who determine your wages and benefits need to be elected by you in the first place.

but I work in the private sector because you can't get a public sector job in NJ without connections.
