I just bought a bottle of the new purple heinz ketchup...

It's just psychological, but I swear it tastes purple! I'm sad because I don't like the purple taste and I've got a whole bottle to finish!

we put some on a hot dog for my dad one summer..and he totally wouldn't eat it.

it's weird..we assured him it was just ketchup...but he still wouldn't eat it.

I wouldn't go near the stuff, but my brother does taste a difference with the green.

Purple is NOT a taste or flavor. :|

Just like Red is not a Taste of Flavor, no matter how much kool-aid you have drank ;)

Half the volume of the stuff is probably food coloring. I'd imagine it takes a lot of work (and a lot of chemicals) to override the natural color of tomatoes...

had both of them, and they all taste like ketchup. It looks weird on fries but it all tastes the same

I've had blue butter. If you make scrambled eggs with a little bit of it they come out a nice, gross shade of green.

No, but it's certainly more natural than purple!

It is produced by the break down of pectin.

Actually, it is.. lol

I have a bottle of el-cheapo ketchup here, and it has no artificial colorings.

The color will change over time and become a darker red. This is caused by processing and pectin breakdown. By altering these steps, it requires less food coloring to change the color of ketchup.

Yes but the dye that emits the purple color DOES.

Not necessarily. Lots of colorants do not have any flavor.
