Who has had problems with their VW door moldings?

I have finally gotten pissed off at VW. I had a door molding fall off when the car had 25,000 miles on it and the dealer made me pay for a new one, $70 down the drain. My Jetta is now at 60,000 miles and the other 3 moldings are coming off. They want $150 a molding to replace them. I called VW and they said I am SOL. I have contacted the BBB and they just sent me a packet for me to fill out with my complaint. VW is nuts if they expect me to pay $450 to replace three pieces of rubber.

Is there anyone else I can complain to?

Does anyone else have the same problems?

The guy I talked to at VW told me that if they get enough complaints then they might do something.

What I did was just inspect mine every now and then. When they started to get to the point where they were going to peel off, I just pulled them off, and reapplied them using a $10 roll of 3M moulding tape.

Car went through a very wet midwestern winter and about 25,000 miles without any problems what so ever.

I have heard about the 3M tape. I have also seen other people out there who have tried to tape them back on they look like total crap. I just wish VW would meet me half way on this and not take a kidney for a stupid door molding.

The BBB also told me that they have had an issue with VW on this. They need to have more people get on the bus so that they can have VW do something about this.

The biggest issue is that VW uses some crap tape to begin with. In my GTi at least, the freaking rivet holes are already drilled in the door panels. VW just went ahead and used glue instead of actually riveting the moulding to the door.

I know that the European version actually used the rivet holes and riveted the moulding down. Problem fixed. I know that you can order the Euro spec moulding and be done with it. Major $$$ though.

I have an older model Jetta and my door moldings keep coming off as well. I took it to a body repair guy who lives close by and he reattached it with this adhesive glue that they use and it is on there for good now. Looks good too.
