Who has GeForce2 or Radeon with ASUS A7V motherboard???

Hello. Who has either GeForce2 or Radeon with the ASUS A7V mainboard? Any problems? How is your stability? Any tips you can share?

And please, no "Get this card, or get that card". I'm not choosing cards, because my brother is giving me one for my birthday on Saturday, but he won't tell me which one yet, but I know it's one of those two. Either way, I will be happy, I know that.

I just bought the ASUS A7V, and T-Bird, and I'm just trying to get prepared to build my new system.

Please share any experiences or tips you have with either of those 2 cards and the ASUS A7V.

Also any tips for that motherboard in general if you have any.

Thanks in advance. 🙂

Ahoy!

I have a GF2 GTS (creative) in my A7V. (rev w/ dips)
No serious problems.
Fastwrites wouldn't work untill I updated the drivers (6.31 I'm using now)..
But that's it.
As for the radeons, I don't beleive they have any compatability issuses with the A7V.

A tip, install the new 4 in 1's, and the new promise drivers before installing the card to avoid to the problems everyone has had 😛

I just got an asus a7v, athlon 800 - no overclocking and i'm having a crappy time with the asus geforce2 mx 32mb card. (v7100)

quake 3 and unreal tournament crash after a few min.. sometimes longer, sometimes right away. i just bought the ati radeon 32 ddr so i'm going to try that out and see if i get any problems.

btw - running win2k and i had the same problems with both the asus drivers and nvidia's detonator 3 driver.

Hey bongod, keep me posted.

BTW, I heard there are beta "special purpose" drivers for the Radeon and Win2K that are supposed to increase Win2K performance a lot.

Keep that info flowing Radeon/GeForce2, and Asus A7V owners.

I will be getting one of those two cards tomorrow, and building my new system this weekend.

Thanks.

Tbird 800 @ 950 @ 1.75v
Asus A7V with 1003 bios (it came that way)
Latest VIA 4-in-one (whichever was available a month ago... 4.25 was it?)
Geforce2 GTS 32MB (it's an OEM card, I got it from that DecoY dude on the FS/FT forums)
Dets 6.31

The CPU ID program tells me that I am in 4xAGP with sidebanding, but I have sidebanding disabled in the BIOS. Go figure?!?. I also heard that it actually decreases performance so I'd rather it be off. I'd disble 4xagp too if I ever remembered to or saw any issues. The good news is that I haven't. This box is very stable. More so than my Celeron / Abit BH6 combo that it replaced. I am very pleased.

I've pulled 8 hour UT lanparty sessions and all-nighter RA3 fests with this box and it never hiccups.

About VIA Apollo KT133 motherboards and GeForces in general... Compatibility is near-perfect in every way according to my own experiences with the rig in the sig (Hey, that rhymes! 🙂 ). There are no AGP incompatibility issues which plagued VIA and Ali Super7 motherboards & TNT/GeForce card combinations. Performance is very good, and all AGP features (AGP4X transfer rate, sideband adressing and fast writes) can be enabled without problems. Today, anything you hear about Athlon/GeForce incompatibilites on new systems is FUD spread by ignorant or brand zealotary people.

There is one issue you should be aware, however. However, if you should use Nvidia's 6.18 reference detonator drivers, be sure to disable AGP fast writes. A bug in 6.0x-6.1x versions of Nvidia's reference drivers causes system instability.

If you do get the GeForce2, be it MX or GTS, make sure you steer clear of the 6.18 Detonators.

IN the early days of the Kt133 board there was a lot of probs with this type of stuff, but as long as you have the latest drivers for your controller (promise ata 100), and the via 4 in 1's, it'll run the second you click it in. (both cards).

Well, I have an Abit KT7-RAID MB but I also have a 64meg Retail radeon VIVO & regarding the new drivers, the Win98 ones are fine but the W2K drivers still suck.

Whatever it is, whenever you have a VIA board and games or windows crash on you when you think what you did is right and perfect, just install the chipset drivers, it'll do great for ya. I had such problems with Nvidia cards and was often frust with the headache I need to go through to figure out what was not working. All was gone when I installed the chipset drivers. 😉

I really appreciate the help from EVERYBODY.

I will be getting my new card this afternoon, and building my new system tonight/tomorrow. WOOHOO!!!!!

If anybody has any more last minute tips, let me now.

Thanks again to everybody for the feedback. 🙂
