damn ultra,

you list brought back some memory.
Yawmark is cool guy, I miss having him around "laminating somebody's ass" 🙂
Cobainist later changed to SmackDown.

I was part of the old UBB board before hot deals came into existance, but there was an OT at that time. I joined the new message boards about 1 month after they started. I used to post far more on Silicon Investor and the Motely Fool, but haven't done much of that recently.

I've only been a member since summer but have been lurking for what seems like forever. After reading a bit up on the history (nice lesson, hehe), my memory has been jogged.. I think the first major discussion I remember was reading through that entire OFF TOPIC - Religion one.

I think in the beginning it was called Non Hardware Forums? 🙂
There is a another religion furore in the new CF forum under the current Off Topic.
Off Topic name was suggested by KingHam who won a motherboard for that.
Many people were routing for "the Pub" and some still do. 😀

And then... there was that Kayes Dude! Remember, he was that guy who went and put all our ugly mugs on the web for the world to see. Where the hell is he nowadays anyway? Friggin Pararazzi... They always take the pics an run! 😉

I was here on the UBB also..probably had a couple thousand posts on there

Konichiwa - I think you might have been talking about Rexbo. He got banned from many forums, not just Anandtech.

I've got here just about a month before the switch to Fusetalk, but didn't register until a few months later.

You have been a member of AnandTech forums since October 10, 1999. I must have slept in or been out or something cause I was around during the ubb days too, not quite as vocal as many of the others but always reading up on things. Watched the formation of the hot deals forum too, now that was interesting.

Another item that spurred the Hot Deals forum was that Maxtor 13.6 gig HD for $99 after a $30 rebate at Office Depot. That was a great price at the time. I guess you could say that was the first real AT hot deal.

Rexbo was certainly one of them, but before him (as Rio reminded me 😉) was Fish, AKA ><> 😀 -- the nef for Jesus. He was off the deep end. Way off.

Thanatopsis and Daniel,

I believe Konichiwa was thinking of Netopia (just as Rio Rebel said)... Yes, it was Netopia that played one of the greatest parts in the creation of the "General Non-Hardware Forum" (Which is now known as "Off Topic&quot😉.
As for Rexbo and Fish... Netopia could then and now, debate millinium's around either. You see, Netopia believes and loves with his soul in what he speaks... Rexbo on the other hand, just loves to hear himself preach. As does/did Fish.

There is a wonderfully unique difference between them all... although, I myself prefer the former most mentioned.😉

Ahhh! But I don't believe in God, What would I know?!

Well all the old fogies are just coming out of the woodwork to see this one, eh Hippy? 😉

You're right, Netopia could certainly out-argue either of those guys, but they always stick out in my mind more simply because of how insane and incredibly annoying they both were. Does that make me pessimistic? Ah, who cares. 🙂

I was a lurker for a long time. Then I joined up a couple months before the Staples coupon stacking fiasco.

I then quit in protest when Anands threatened to report the email addresses and IP's of people involved in the staples fiasco. I thought it was a total breach of privacy, and also Anands changed their user agreement without even consulting us. That was in my mind a legal no-no. So I quit.

Now I'm back, but still wary.

Wow Ultravox. Susan. There's someone I hadn't heard from in a while. She was here during the first FuseTalk transplant and then disappeared and then came back a year later. Guess some of us have a life. 😛

I think I started as a Wounded Monitor Child brought in by Supersix and then stuck around grabbing Staples coupons until RipRiddah announced "Staples is Suck". I then wen't into the Hardware forums, but got tired arguing with people like Hardware and GUTB. I slipped over to Off Topic where I came to know NowhereMan and found great humor in his posts until he started changing his identity every three hours. That wore thin. Been flamed by the best and still manage to offend the most mild mannered. All and all, I still keep coming back waiting for that ULTIMATE POST.

I was also part of the original UBB board, but didn't post much then.....too much now 😛

October 9th, 1999 5:15 PM on the Fusetalk board 🙂

LMAO @ Zerocool, staunchly defending his right to determine what Anand's FREE forums should provide to him...

I can see little Zero in the mall at Christmas time, sitting on Santa's lap, explaining to him exactly what Santa's responsibilities are and how he intends to see that he gets his just rewards...

LOL

I was here since way before the WMC Thingie got alot of hummor out of it. But I did not post much. Do Remember trading Rio Rebel a Modem for a CPU though........

Ken

i was visitin' anands site way back in the geocity days 🙂 signed on the good ol' bbs a long while ago.. seems so long ago....

oh, and October 9th, 1999 7:00 AM 🙂

my votes on the best deals: Crosspad XP's, $57 5 port 10/100 intel switches, and anything value america (of course, i may be biased as i got in on these 🙂)

I wish I could go back and peruse a day of topics on the old bbs. I have the offal feeling that the topics in the old days were way better, more guts as it were.
