Who has a disaster plan?

I was wondering how many of you are prepared for some kind of disaster (blizzards, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, tornados, terrorist attack, etc...). Do you keep stuff at home? On your person, In your car? In your subteranean bunker?

Just curious how much preparedness is on people's minds...

As for me, I am planning on putting a cabinet in the garage with a small stockpile of food and water, batteries, and some other items as well as beef up the stuff I keep in the trunk of my cars.

Need to start developing a list of stuff.

For what it is worth, I live on the Florida coast and have a reasonable expectation of storms screwing things up around here from time to time. A week without power or water would suck ass...

we're stuck on LI if anything ever happens in the terrorist capital of the world to our west so we just say fug it. I guess I really need to rethink this.

Somewhat. After going through a 2 week power outtage it kinda made me pay more attention. I always have plenty of canned food on hand thanks to a large pantry so I could eat for a month. Have a water purification thingy from camping and a large stream nearby. Thankfully plenty of outdoor gear that would keep me warm in the coldest of temps from snowboarding/camping.

And probably 4 full tanks of liquid propane from grilling. Plus a hardline for a phone which will always be there in an emergency. Also have a crank radio and tons of flashlights/batteries but I already had those. And pleny of ammo. Also some traps laying around. Plenty of hand saws to easily get firewood.

I'm not totally prepared but I could go quite a while before needing anything. One thing I really want to have is a full blown medical kit including medication to take care of even serious gashes/wounds.

It wasn't me I was so concerned about during the big outtage, it was all the other desperate people who had nothing to eat because they eat out for food.

not really. I don't see a major need. I have enough food in my apartment to last a week, a gas stove that will work even with the power is out, and I live in an urban area. I can't imagine what would happen where that wouldn't be enough short of something that would kill me outright.

Not really. Live on the epicenter of the 1994 Northridge quake that was a 6.4 and wasn't prepared. No issues.

I like to be reminded that I could die at any moment throughout the day.

I Don't. But if you are serious about it, don't forget planned rally points. Pick at least 2 places not at work, school, or home that might be accessible, but not breathing the same air as work, school, home. If everything goes all armaggedon-ie, there will be no cell phones, etc. Where can you met?

i have the route planned out to pick up my kids, stop by the house and gear up for mountain living if necessary. az doesnt have much worry about storms and such, so the worst thing i have to worry about is terrorists i spose. for that im armed/ prepared for, and could live out in the "wild" for months if necessary.

our disaster plan is to cutover to the secondary servers in a remote location and bring up services there. just kidding.

after the nyc blackout a few years ago and 9/11, my wife and i had worked out a plan on where to go and where to meet and who would pick up the kid. we haven't revisited it since she started working again and we had a second kid so it's outdated.

as a xmas gift this year from my sister, she received a survival backpack complete with a lot of water and probably a first aid kit and crankable flashlight type thing. this is because they both have the same fear of apocalyptic events occurring in the nyc area.

What I find hilarious are the commercials for ready.gov. The wife is running through a checklist with the husband - canned food, water, check!

Can opener? Then the husband freaks out because they don't have a can opener. You can open a can with a rock, a knife, whatever. But your whole plan is foiled because you don't have a can opener?

Get a chuckle out of this. No mention of even a knife.

I've got a week of food and water. Out in the shed I have 15 gallons of gas that I rotate through every few months.

I live on an Island on the East coast.. the only reason it's landlocked is because of a river on the west side. I'm now waiting for the next big storm so that I can stand on the beach in the rain screaming, "Take me! Take me!"

I think if I had a fire/flood or anything like that -- it would be better for me. I'd finally have a reason to pack up my [remaining] stuff and get a better place.

Not really no. I've got alot of guns and ammo, but that's mostly just a hobby. I have all kinds of survival stuff, but that is for camping. I guess all I would need to do is stockpile some food and water to qualify myself, but I don't really care that much.

We had a plan when we lived in Florida (food, water, evacuation route). In Colorado, not so much. Grab the cats and head to the basement, under the stairs for tornadoes.

If the zombie apocalypse happens, we're heading to my in-laws in rural Wyoming where they have a good stock of food, weapons and ammo.

I don't have one but it would be a good idea for me to at least have a minimal plan and supplies. I'll have a handgun in a week or so, but that's about it really. Oh, and a nice Fenix L2D flashlight. BRING IT ON

I keep an extra roll of toilet paper in the bathroom for emergencies.

I've only had to break into a few times over the years, but each time I've been thankful for my foresight.

Not really. Short of a tornado there's not much I can think of that would require one. And if I really needed one, some half ass planning of a couple dozen cans of food, gallons of water, ect probably isn't going to cut it.
