Yesterday I noticed a 9-inch crack (from a rock, AFAIK) in the windshield. Either it's spreading extremely fast or I just didn't see it cause it's on the driver's side. The lowest estimate I've found to replace it is $270. My comprehensive deductible is $500, so I'm going to have to shell out all the money for it 🙁

You can sometimes get a service to "repair" the crack. They'll drill a small hole at one end to remove the stress riser and seal it. You'll barely be able to see it at all if they do it right. Sometimes this won't stop the progress of the crack tho so, YMMV.

Okay fine whatever. My point is that it's a better car in most ways and can be purchased used with low miles for the same price as a new Tiburon. I didn't bother to read through the details on the ones I pulled up, OK? Sue me.

Does the used WRX come with a 100,000 mile, 10 year warranty?

Just because a car has 4 cylinders doesn't mean it automatically gets better gas mileage. To get advertised HP numbers, most 4 banger cars have to spin a lot faster, which more revolutions at lower displacement uses the same amount of gas as less revs at higher displacement. You also miss out on torque. My car has a 3 litre inline six and gets the same mileage as the Corvette with it's big old V8 350. 🙂

It wouldn't need it if it did since Subies are very well-made cars. Warranty or not, you're still going to get stranded by crappy cars and you still have to deal with repairs regardless of who's paying for it. That warranty is the only way they can even get people to buy their stuff. No thanks.

All I'm saying is that the originator of this thread might want to consider a more reliable car and not to get too sucked in by price and warranty of the Hyundai. There are plenty of other sporty-ish cars out there for the same price that will likely be more reliable. Nothing sucks more than getting stuck with a car you can't trust.

yeah, I was looking into that. This morning, I called for replacement. This afternoon, I'm calling repair specialists...

True, but in this case according to autobytel not only is the tiburon at least a couple of hundred pounds heavier than the Spec V, but its gas mileage is 19/26 vs. 24/29 for the SE-R (Spec v is 10 HP more so those numbers may be more like 23/28. That's pretty significant. My maxima with 222 HP gets 21/26 - better than the Tiburon. In fact 19/26 is absolutely awful for that Hyundai. Quite discraceful compared to other cars in similar performance or weight categories.

I didn't know it had transmission issues. I wonder how much of that is because of youngsters jamming it up to 5k and dropping the clutch out, but other than that Subarus have among the best reliability in the business. In terms of looks that's subjective. I think the previous gen is more attractive personally, though I do get a semi when I see a nicely cleaned wrx.

Dayum - a mustang GT with 8 cylinders and 260 HP is getting 18/26. I wonder if that tiburon's numbers were measured with a leak or if the engine really is that inefficient?

EDIT: A nissan 350z with 287 HP gets 20 for city as well.😛

OK I'm done!

A C5 Corvette with 350 HP gets 18/26 also. My Supra gets 18/25 and produces only 230 HP is stock form, however it's 16 year old technology. The weight of the Hyundai probably accounts for the mileage deficit.

But considering other cars with more weight and more horsepower can get better mileage I'd say it must be routed in part on Hyundair hiring engineering dropouts for engine design.

Do a search on google for WRX and trasmission. 🙂 I agree with you, the cause probably has a lot to do with boy racers doing redline drops trying to get advertised 0-60 numbers, but look at the target audience for that car. Boy racers.

Other than an old guy I saw in one once I think 99.9999% of WRX buyers are guys in their 20's who happen to have a job good enough to pay for it (or live at home and think they do)!

Partially, but a lot of the heavier cars that get better mileage also use V8's, which because of the higher torque takes a lot less reving to move the thing. I would never buy a hyundai granted, but overall I don't think it's any less of an option at the Spec V or other cars in its class. It looks nice for what it is, and for the price with that warranty isn't too bad of a deal.

Like I said, boy racers. 🙂 If it were me, and I had the money to buy a new Hyundai, I think I'd buy a really nice used car, maybe a Supra TT or a Lexus.

Don't lie to me! We both know you'd buy a nissan 300z TT or a new 350z. Come on now 😉

I really dig the look of the 300ZX TT, but it's neither as reliable nor as fast as the Supra. 🙂

Yeah...because it's a freaking Hyundai (read: POS). Get a used WRX instead if you want a rally-rep.

EDIT- for example
this car.

I've had my Elantra for over two years and 50k miles and the only problem I've had is the headlight went out. And they replaced it for free and gave me a car wash. Don't believe the negative reports from people who probably have never even driven the car they are talking about. Hyundais are great.
