I'm not sure if anyone that didn't grow up in the 80's would have had one of these. The days before the "5-Star from Mead" we had trapper keepers!

I had one in elementary school with Transformers on it.

Anyone else?

I wanna see what age ranges actually had them...

I had a trapper keeper with a nude picture of a hot woman on it. I got so excited I woke up.

I did at one point, probably like the 6th or 7th grade, don't remember exactly, but it was right when they first came out and were considered uber-cool. They sucked though. Pee-Chee's rocked (do kids still use those?). I'm 31.

I think they took off when I was in 5th grade and you were a total looser if you didn't have one the next year (1983-84). I know I had them through 9th grade (1986-87) then I believe in 10th grade I stopped caring so much about what I did w/ my papers. Do they still sell them even?

I know they were good about holding papers so they didn't "fall out" BUT the flaps always tore from the folders when you needed to put more than say 3 sheets in there. The papers from spiral notebooks were too far to fit correctly.. and after a few months the folding binder was all torn up and the latches didn't work anymore.

I know southpark did a parody where Cartman got some *Keeper 2000 or something and it had a computer and all other fancy gadgets and basically it took over the town. I enjoyed that episode.

---------------

In 1983 -- was "OP" the popular shirt and shorts all around the world for you late 20's folks? Maybe it was a S.Florida thing. I remember in middle school if you didn't have OP or Pacific Highway(?) shirts you were in trouble. And I remember the Madonna years where all the girls had to wear those like a virgin outfits w/ lots of bracelets and funky leather gloves. And then there was the fad for the guys w/ earing's in the left ear, and didn't George Michael have his in the right ear but he wasn't publicly gay yet so it had everyone all f'd up? I remember left is right and right is wrong. Never got an earing / piercing though.

Funny episode

"Cartman: Hey, dudes! Check out my sweet Dawson's Creek Trapper Keeper Ultra Keeper Futura 2000! Yeah, well it's got ten different compartments for every subject in school, an electronic pencil sharpener, four plastic bags with electronic zippers, copy machine, fax, a better picture of Dawson's Creek on the back than Kyle's, flat-screen TV, and of course OnStar!"

Later on after the trapper keeper takes over the town, a cyborg that looks like Bill Cosby comes back in time from the year 2034 to destroy the trapper keeper. :D
