I hop on the back bar while he drives, man I haven't had that much fun in a long time.:)

Schwinn Apple Crate. Supposedly, they're somewhat collectible now.

Yup one owned by the Schwinn family fetched $14,000

I've seen then go on Ebay for upwards of $7,000.

That's what I WANTED as a kid. Instead one Xmass I got a used stock 20" wheel bike and a set of tools. And I built it into the bike (sorta) I wanted.

Soon I was fixing all the neighborhood kid's bikes as well. That tool set was a BIG mistake for my Dad, I fell in love with tools @ a early age and have been using them ever since. If he had bought me the Stingray I WANTED, who knows, I could have been a brain surgeon or something!!?? ;)

KHS makes a bike called a Hot Rod that has a bannana seat and sissy bar and looks kinda like the old Sting Rays. Schwinn has plans to reproduce the "Krate" bikes as well! One model a year. They are also reproducing the old "Black Phantom" but with a 7 speed internal hub.

Yeah I did the playing card thingy, but what was WAY better were ballons. You just filled them part way up, and it gave you that deep throaty "thump thump thump" like a Harley! (It was SWEEEEET) ;)

How many of you used the clothspin and playing card in the spokes technique to give your bicycle that "motorcycle" sound?

;) :)

I did it with baseball cards of players I didn't like on my beautiful gold 3-spd with a gold banana seat and chopper handlebars! :D I could do a wheelie for blocks.

I loved those Banana seats. I was a larda$$ and I would put it on sideways so my flab would not get caught in the chain.

I still have my 24 inch bike that I bought with my paper route money in the 60's. It is a Sears Roebuck Fastback, Just like the Schwinn model. Original banana seat, sissy bar, everthing original, except the tires. The 5 speed shifter is like a floor gear shift in a car, mounted on the frame, just between the seat and the handle bars. I wonder what that would fetch on E-Bay ?

I found my bike !!!

I had a BLUE ROSS 3spd Barracuda / Sting Ray Muscle Bike.

The shifting mechanism was in the HUB... sorta cool... except all my buddies had BMX Bikes with brakes that you peddle backwards to stop. Well, on those you could jam back on the peddle and skid. On my bike, if you squeezed the rear brake the back tire wouldn't lock up (At least not with the way it was set and my puney kid arms). Plus my bike weighed about 500lbs. So, wasn't great for jumping... in fact it totally sucked. And climbing was impossible if the dirt was slightly soft... even in low gear. Ugh.

Oh it was so awful when BMX Bikes became 'in'. That bananna seat sucked. Worse still, the seat had a lot of adjustments so I was stuck with that g-d thing for many years, while all my buddies got new bikes, 10spds, etc. I finally 'won' a bike when I was like 16 in a drawing. I was just getting a car at that point! Irony eh!

Anyway, here's a Pic of my first bike I found on e*b a y

Here's the E-ay Auction (closed) that I found... just fyi. At least it didn't sell for $1,000,000, that would've sucked since I was happy to give that bike away at the time. The pic in the auction is not scaled right, it's been reproportioned... but, you get the idea.

LINK to another page I found it (Text find for Barracuda, some other kid riding it... brings back scary memories).
