who got their tax refund?

I am still waiting on some tax documents but I went ahead and filed my state and federal taxes this weekend. The documents I'm waiting on are my dividends and interest but I already have my year end statements for those accounts so I can use those figures. Normally my refund or amount I owe is only a few bucks, but my tax year is an ackward one. As such, I will be getting a refund which I elected to put into buying the savings bonds that they have decided to add on this year. Man, what a great idea that is though. The government gets an interest free loan and then, when they have to pay it back they can get you instead to agree to let them keep the money at their dictated rates. Still, I was surprised at the interest rates on the savings bonds. Way much better than what I would be able to get from my bank in terms of CDs. So I'm more than happy to participate as a means of short term liquid investment.

Anyway, I also filed an amended return for 2008 which should get me another bundle back too.

dude fricken use turbo tax for that.

Yeah, I would repeat this notion. I have the same complexity of a tax return (multiple W2, foreign income, foreign income exclusion, tuition and grants, student loan interest payments) but I did not have any trouble doing the Turbotax software to prepare my documents. Hell, I actually had a harder time doing it in the software than I did by doing it by hand the previous years because I had to figure out which of the questions I needed to go through for the needed schedules and forms.

I'll probably do it tonight or tomorrow depending on how busy my nights are. I believe both of my student loan interest forms are available, and I know my W2 is available online.

not me, my wife is waiting for her last w2 before we can file. if we get some loot back it is most likely going to our save funds for our trip to aruba in march.

Why do people enjoy giving the goverment a free loan? It's your money, adjust your withholdings such that you only overpay a little bit. i do the same thing, but for different reasons:

Side consulting business (that is a sole proprietorship) + etsy/ebay/dividend income that I pay income tax out of my main job and my wifes tax refund each year. Claim married, withhold at higher rate, 0 exemptions - it comes out to be a wash.

oh yea man, the interest i'm losing out on the maybe $1k or so that we'll get back from the government ... man we could have done A SHITLOAD with interest money!!!!!!!!!

Waiting on my 1099's - I used my monthly statements to prepare my taxes so just need to double check and then print & mail.

Forgot to change my elections last year so instead of HOH & 2 I paid Single & 1. I'm due a healthy refund and from that I changed my elections yesterday.

I will have 2 W2's, plus the 1099G from unemployment, 2 1098E's for student loan interest, and my tuition expense from this year. I am sending it all to get done by a professional...

That's not complicated return at all. Any basic tax software should be able to knock that out in like 30 minutes.

I'm still waiting on at least one 1099, I think.

I'm going to owe this year though, probably about $100 to both.

Anyone that has the brains to make it through at least one year of college; should be able to do their own taxes using tax S/W🙄

Most professionals use the same tax engines and charge you for the favor 🙁

true...my wife insisted we go to this tax guy...wait like an hour and pay him $100 to ask us questions and do our taxes. This was before I knew. I mean we just bought a house etc etc..I leaned over his desk to see his monitor and he was just using Turbo Tax. That was when I started doing it myself and never looked back. Plus I e-file and get our money back quick.Oh, and I never went to college 🙂

I filed my taxes on Jan 7th... e-filed and this Friday is the first day for refunds from the IRS so I doubt anyone has gotten their tax refund yet. I call shens as well. I will get mine this week (I hope).
