You get what you pay for.

Looks like someone waited in line for three hours, only to find the guy in front of him getting the last one. :p

I HAD a 9800Pro, before it died on me this summer. Since then I have been without a desktop computer (other than the 3 days I had a 6800GT before I realized I needed the money more) and am quite happy to have one working again.

There seemed to be plenty of GeForce 6800s at the CompUSA I went to (Minnetonka, MN). Unfortunately, when I tried to unlock four additional pipes, I got checkermark graphics in Far Cry. :( However, the sixth vertex works fine; it's still a great card for a great price! :)

Same here, was worth a shot though. I got the last one in Fresno CA

Thanks to the recommendations from folks here, I got up at 5:00 am and made it to my CompUSA at about 5:15.

There was already about 100 people in line, and by the time the doors opened at 6, there was easily 4 times that!

I got to the counter behind which they lock up the "expensive" stuff (RAM, etc). It was a real cattle-call as people from the back of the line tried to cut in front of everyone else. Luckily, I was #2 in line, and the #1 guy got the 6800 as well.

My CompUSA had a total of FOUR in-stock. By the time I got in line, I could see the gap where the cards were, as they sold all 4 of them in the first 10 minutes of being open. So, I am glad to have gotten up and gotten to the store when I did. :)

Thanks
Tim

I got the PNY 6800 from FS for $233 shipped.
Spent an extra $15 to not go out and wait in line full of pushy, desperate, anxious people.
Tax here in LA is 8.25%.

Not bad,, that's a pretty good deal,, because with tax, my 6800 is at $249 and even after the $30 mail in rebate i'll still be paying $220

the 6800 I just got yesterday replaced a PNY verto GeForce3 Ti200 that has been going strong for 2-3 years now.. You must have at one time gotten 1 bad product and then labeled anything from PNY bad. I for one am impressed with both cards I have gotten from PNY now.

If you're getting artifacts I'd look at what PSU you have before you blame the card.

If you still have artifacts, you can try either underclocking it a bit or mod the BIOS to increase the voltage(the 6800 has lower voltage than the GT and Ultra). Usually if your card does not actually have defects, they disable the first pixel and first vertex pipelines.
I personally now have a 16x1fp 6vp 6800 that is recognized as a Quadro FX 4000 :p

I got 2 PNY 6800's from CUSA yesterday - the first with a capacitor dislodged from the back of the board and it's replacement which also had a capacitor dislodged from the back of the board. Then I gave up, after having driven well over 100 mi. for purchase and 2 returns. Congratulations to anyone who got one w/all components attached.

On the subject of artifacts, I've unlocked the pixel/vertex units (w/RivaTuner) on 2 BFG cards. One was a total success, the other had defects in the locked pixel pipes. If the card doesn't artifact 12p but does at 16p, the PSU wouldn't be on the top of my list of potential causes of the corruption. The survey at Guru3D reports less than 60% chance for success achieved in this mod, so lots of cards are not 100% healthy for 16/6.

BlackPear1, I actually had the exact same experience. Bought a PNY 6800 from CUSA, opened it and found a dislodged capacitor, returned it for another that had the same problem. When I went to the return the second one, one of the tech guys told me it was a problem with all of the cards they had at the store. He said someone he knew actually called PNY about it, and they said it was only a loose fuse for the fan and that it wouldn't make a difference. I was somewhat skeptical, so I had them install it in a machine at the store. It seemed to work fine on both 2D and 3D (they ran the NVidia Nalu demo), but I won't be completely at ease until I run it in my own machine on Tuesday. Fingers crossed...

Anyone else get a card with loose parts?

I tried registering my PNY 6800 on PNY's site with no luck. It keeps saying please enter a valid serial code. There seems to be 2 possible codes it could be on the sticker in the back of the code, right below each barcode. THis doesnt include the UPC barcode

Any know which code is the actual serial code and if there shoudl be any spaces or dashes?

The UPC Bar is actually on the back of your card. You have to open your machine if you have installed it already.

There is a Proof of Purchase on the box with the UPC code only.

My crappy PNY successfully softmodded. I am running with 16x1fp and 6vp with no artifacts. My last card was a Radeon 9500np which I also successfully softmodded to a 9700 pro. I consider myself one lucky dude. 3dmark05 on the 6800 increased from 3326 -> 3702.

I tried several drivers. The original set had terrible polygon errors, crashing 3dmark05. I wouldn't give up until you try other driver sets. The errors I experienced were due to drivers that didn't support dx9.0c. Of all the driver sets available, including more recent ones, 66.81 provided me with the best results.

hm thanks, i'll take a look in using 66.81. was really dissapointed when my 6742 with 4 pipes unlocked created major artifacts when scrolling a window.

also someone mentioned that a possible increase in the AGP voltage might solve the problem? if so, what is the recommended AGP voltage?
