I am one of them that gotted banned. Don't know why. :(

I guess i gotta start over gain. I was 4 posts to make 1000 posts. Oh well.

---

You don't know why your username was banned? You (and 13 others) posted "back-to-back" replies in the off topic thread earlier, and tried to crash the BBS in IMHO. Not a wise choice, and now that you decided to make another username without writing us first, it is nuked as well.

I was, I've e-mailed the moderators already, but no response yet.

This is a temporary name because I couldn't go 1 night without posting! :frown:

integlspwr2k, you probably should have emailed the mods first, before re-registering. ;)

Sorry to question your decision, but is banning 14 people really necessary for one of the so-called "nef threads?" Personally I suspect you assumed wrong when you took them to be trying to crash the server. Yeah, it's annoying, but they're having fun. If you really want to crack down on such threads, make a public warning, give people one personal warning, and then nuke them. That should take care of the problem.

IMHO,

Thanks for your input, but when you "assume" you know what happens....

They are free to write us with an apology and then they will be allowed back on the BBS with their old username. I thought it was a foul attempt to put a load on the server, and increase their post count. We can't please everyone with our decisions, and considering the simple fact that this is one LARGE message board I think we do a fine job <tooting horn>.

Not a problem, I'm not tryin' to cause trouble. I'll agree with you on the post count theory, though, it's all dem wannabe diamonds. ;) I usually agree with the decisions made by the mod, and when I do disagree I try to do it with the utmost respect.

while i do think that those banned should've emailed the mods first...

"tried to crash the BBS in IMHO" is a bit of a stretch depending on the actual facts.

Zuni himself said fusetalk can handle it, but that does not matter. i simply think those who did "nef" to the extreme did not WILLINGLY attempt to crash the BBS, but just did not think of the server load such activities would result in.

right now, i am assuming the bans are temporary.

note that i stand on the record saying that i don't know what "exactly" happened in that thread. but will assume it's similar to what happened to my other thread which has been buried (post here and blah blah blah is a blah...)

The dorks were posting for the sake of increasing their post count. In the past, I recall an instance where one guy posted around 200 times in one thread to get to senior status, and when he achieved his goal, he was banned. I fail to see how this is any different, except that this quest for status was of a higher magnitude.

Duckers...

I didn't see it either, but it's pretty easy to imagine. Just picture a 1700+ post thread, full of nothing but stuff like "what?" repeated 30 or 40 times in a row, by the same person, all with the same post count.

Based on what Mday said;
isn't Fusetalk theoretically invulnerable according to Zuni?

Moderator, since I see you are following this thread, have you received an e-mail from ej5463@cnsvax.albany.edu? If not, I can resend. My schools SMTP server acts screwy sometimes.. :frown:

It is all srpung from the status thing. If the mods want people such as @#$%^&* to stop searching for the ultimate status, then they should do a way with it.

Zuni/Mods

I have been around since the birth of Anandtech, and have witness some problems in the past with trolls, but your status scheme down't seem to work out too well when it come to keeping the GUTB out.

Could you just del all status, but have something that run in the background to monitor the users for potential Trols...This way you may not have to deal with the search for enlightment/Elitism.

I see the first major grammatical error yet in a moderator comment on 10/15/2000 02:14:07

Shouldn't that be without?

Or am I missing something?

But yes, generally you guys do a seriously fine job - your humor is much appreciated here - I look forward to your shifts.
