once again, just schools and government employees get a free day off, spare no expense with our tax dollars! Although I didnt even know it was presidents day and I just took it off by chance to have a 3 day weekend.

There are 10 Federal designated holidays each year. Most companies I have worked for during my career have given at least that minimum number of holidays per calendar year plus a "floater" holiday for employees. Normally they will take 1 or 2 of the 10 and use them to extend another holiday such as the Friday after Thanksgiving or an extra day around the 4th of July which means you won't get 1 or 2 of the "official" ones. Federal employees have to take a day of leave if they want any day other than the 10 designated ones off. State and local employees go by whatever their locality does, in most cases they mimic the Feds. Your tax dollars suffer far greater abuses at the hands of government at all levels that you can rant about rather than pick something that most people with full time jobs and benefits receive, public or private.

Yeah, it's not like the government is doing anything extraordinary. Most companies give more paid company holidays.

And it's Washington's Birthday. President's Day isn't a holiday.

Im fortunate to get it off. There was some confusion among our department as to whether or not we would, though.

Even if we got the day off I'd still have to study for a massive test on tuesday so what the hell. Might as well work.

Holiday for me - actually, the entire week. (break at school.)

Personally, I'd much rather that I had school M-F for 183 straight days with no days off other than weekends. (just a little over 36 weeks), then had the next 16 weeks off for an even longer summer vacation. Then, I'd be able to accomplish a lot more over the summer. (more grad classes or something.)
