ATOT shift workers chime in. Who else works a non-typical week?

Just changed my schedule this month and now I'm working Friday to Tuesday with Wednesday and Thursday as my weekend.

Pros:
-I can go out on my weekend and the malls are quiet. Makes shopping a breeze. Same goes for movies and parks, especially with the kids back.
-Less traffic on my morning commute on Saturday and Sunday

Cons:
-All my friends work Monday to Friday so we can't find time to get together.
-All the fun stuff (street festivals, concerts) happens on Saturday and Sunday.

I miss having a Tuesday - Saturday work schedule. I liked being able to hang out Saturday and Sunday nights, as well has having a regular work day to get things done.

I have what feels like the most complicated schedule possible. But I'm a student, so thats ok haha.

Monday & Tuesday are my weekends. Wednesday to Friday I have classes and work mixed together. Wednesday 2pm-9pm Classes. Thursday 9pm-5pm Work. Friday 8pm-5pm work and classes.

I also work alternating weekends in the evening (Sat & Sun) 5pm-10pm.

This is good because every other week I get a four day weekend :D and I'm working 12-22 hours a week, with 9 nine hours of classes and 2 online courses.

Pros: Weekdays off give me freedom and time to focus.
Pros: I still have my weekends every other week

Cons: All my friends are confused.

I work 4x10s, Thurs-Sun. It was a novelty at first, good for the reasons you mentioned.

After doing it for nearly a year, I would much rather have a strictly M-F schedule. If I could change jobs right now, with no increase in pay, I would do it for a M-F schedule. Working on the weekends gets old quick, basically for the reasons you mentioned but it ends up interfering with just about anything you want to do in your life. Nothing happens on the weekdays except people working their jobs.

I noticed myself hanging out with people from work more often than I ever have.

I work 12s.
Week one: Work Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Week two: Work Wednesday, Thursday
I get 4 hours off somewhere on one of those days.

Rinse/Repeat.

I'm one of those people who work from home and don't really have a schedule. I just have deadlines. I typically model my time after a 9-5 schedule but the nature of the job has me working odd hours on occasion. Having no direct supervision or formal schedule is liberating, for sure. It has challenges, too, though. Balancing work/family time when your home office is within footsteps of your wife and 4-month-old baby isn't easy. Doing a lot of work in coffee shops around the city has been an important part of keeping me very productive when I have to be and focused on the family when I'm home, not work.

I never know what my schedule is from week to week. While my kids' school is in session I work all weekends and 3 weekdays. It sucks because I never get to do anything with my family on weekends. They take the boat out a lot without me.

I'd take the 4x10s to get a three day weekend every week! My company's week is 44 hours. I'm working a little less than that due to staffing arrangements. I work three 10s an 8 and a 4. I'll be moving to 4x10 and a 4 in a few weeks.

M-F right now, but I'd love to move to 4x10 if I could. The company allows it but it just doesn't really work with the schedule for our department right now.

Yup, on my feet the whole time. I'm a server at place #1, starting bartending in a few weeks. I'm a bartender at place #2. Makes for long and exhausting weekends, but it more than pays the bills.

M-F but 1 Friday off every 2 weeks. Nice having 3 day weekends and having a weekday to get things done.
