Don't worry about it. I'm expecting two rejections tomorrow.

My little sister is applying to Georgetown, UVA and GMU. GMU is a given, still waiting to hear from the other two...

Sorry to hear you didn't get into your first choice. I did, and I'm enjoying the end of my freshman year now.

Is there some new trend to want to go to Swarthmore? Whe I was applying for schools, I remember thinking and hearing that it was a pressure-cooker where people were proud of the "anywhere else it would have been an A" type environment, kinda like UChicago. Never a place people went to because it would be a good experience - purely prestige.

To OP: why did you only apply to Haverford and Swarthmore? There are tons of others in that category that would have been just as good and probably more fun. Wesleyan, Williams, Amherst, Colby, Bard, Bates, Oberlin.

Yea, well, too late for that I guess. Perhaps if someone had given me those names a year ago...

I got turned down by Madison last month so the next day I applied to UW River Falls, Mankato State, LaCrosse, and the U of M Twin Cities.

LaCrosse rejected me because I applied so late and the U of M is going to do the same I'm sure. River Falls accepted me and that's where I'm going to go. I'm positive Mankato would accept me but I didn't bother to have my transcripts sent so they havent officially yet.

29 ACT and 3.2 GPA btw.

Yea my GPA is 3.9 and 1420 SATs. I'm taking 3 AP classes this year and have never taken anything but honors classes. I thought those were pretty good stats but apparently they're not enough. My application essay made every female reader cry. I have held a job for 4 years and have like 4 other extracurriculars. Seems to me the only people they accept are the ones who are super human.

Why does Swat suck? Thats not the first time I've heard someone say that.

Sats over 1400? Out of 2400? I don't understand.

No no, over 1400 out of 1600. Seniors graduating this year were required to sumbit new SAT scores but the large majority of schools did not use them for admission purposes, only for benchmarking for next year's applicant pool.

Ow thats not good then. Unless you get over 1500, its not good in my book. I'm super dumb too.

Rofl. SATs/ACTs: the best way to distinguish between the overachievers and the normal people. Just like everything else in high school. Get out in the real world and you'll see how useless those tests really are at describing a person's intelligence.

what are all these schools, havent heard most of these names, are these liberal art schools,I didnt do my undergrad in the US so that is why I dont know I guess. What is the charm of going to these small schools vs going to the big public/private universities like the UCs etc

Individual attention? I can't imagine being in classes with 150 kids. My whole high school only has like 290 kids in it. Plus you getting a better chance of getting into a great grad school.

To you it may be named Rutgers, but to me it'll always be known as the University of New Jersey. Now with a name like that, who would want to go to a university like such? How about Garden State University? Eh, a little better.

I've been hearing mostly good. Last decision is tomorrow (Cornell). So far, my list is (in order of preference): Olin College of Engineering (waitlisted, but 11/20 kids got in last year, so I'm very optimistic), Carnegie Mellon, UIUC, Northwestern, RPI. I was also rejected from MIT. I applied for Electrical and Computer Engineering. Good luck Bibble, I'm sure you'll end up doing fine.

The typical Swarthmoron acts like they're so much better than everyone else, when in fact the college is nothing special. And it certainly doesn't warrant the tuition they're pushing, that's for damn sure.

Heh, what's with all the Swarthmore hate? This school definitely has its moments of being a pressure cooker, but if you take competitive classes at any competitive school it's usually the same. A plus is that people here aren't out to get you.

You know, you should consider community college and try to transfer to UW Madison. You save money and get into the school you want.

Yea now I'm hoping for Colgate. I really liked it when I visited, but its around 5 hours away. However, I was able to see farm animals I thought were extinct on the drive there!

I was rejected in a manner of speaking from Vassar. I say "in a manner of speaking" because they pretty much withdrew my application because of a lack of credentials (application requirements) without even looking at it. Of course, I knew going in that I didn't have everything, but I hoped they would consider me anyway. They didn't.

Kogase, what do you mean? I'm an alum interviewer for Vassar and I've NEVER heard that happening without some sort of notification - they didn't notify you? What didn't you have, that you weren't able to provide?

I'm going to graduate highschool and the local community college simultaneously in less than 2 months so that wont really work. I started working towards my AA at the beginning of my junior year so I'm going to jump right into my major once I get to River Falls.

My little bro got into WPI, RIT, and RPI. I'm very proud of him :)

Myself. I got into RIT, RPI and Villanova (was going to apply to WPI but they required 3 SAT2's and I had only taken 2 by the time applications were due). Currently a 3rd year at RIT.

I got the rest of my letters today. The final count is Rejected: Swarthmore and Haverford, Accepted: Rutgers, Lafayette, Lehigh, Bucknell, and Colgate. I will most likely go to Colgate even though it is a bit too far away to the north for my liking.
