I think it's about the thickness of a closed laptop... 2" or there abouts.

Though I wonder how hot it gets inside that thing...

It probably gets a bit warm, but the heat dissipation techniques Apple is using are pretty neat.

Though they could've used a better GPU.

You worry about heat, but want a better (hotter) video processor? 😛 It's fine for that the iMac is intended for. 🙂

its ugly because its white for 1, and that big space on the bottom
2) it does not look sturdy, especially side to side
3) it has no floppy drive
4) its a mac
5) vid card sucks

The color is standard for consumer products at Apple. I personally like it, but I can understand if someone else doesn't. 🙂

The big space at the bottom is filled with the PSU and a couple of other little things. It's also kind of retro. I like it.

2) it does not look sturdy, especially side to side

😕

3) it has no floppy drive

Thankfully. The floppy should die.

4) its a mac

Thankfully.

5) vid card sucks

For high end 3d, sure.

Yeah, I was rummaging through a broken PowerBook and was pretty amazed at the solutions they came up with for heat dissipation.

really? i hate the new imac's "chin".... but it would make a really good place for Post-It Notes(tm)

i think it really should have a power brick instead of trying to hide the psu inside the case, then it could be so much smaller

yes and i use a floppy on an almost day to day basis, and have hated macs sence they got rid of them

it was OK when they still had Zip drives but they dont even have them anymore, now i have to either burn anything to a CD, which sucks for something thats like 4 megs, OR take my USB Zip drive with me to the lab, which is a pain in the ass

someone mentioned it looking like Leno's chin and now it's tough to get that visual out of my head. :|

There was talk about a powerbrick not being able to provide enough power.

The chin thing is kind of like the old apple computers, atleast a similar look.

my school didnt figure out how to make fileshareing work between PCs and macs, you could do PC-PC or mac-mac not pc-mac

its not like takeing them out lowered the price any

Then you go to a crappy school. OS X can network with an x86 based PC without issues, and can do it without adding any software since 10.3.

lets see, up untill xmass of last year most of the comps at my school were runnin either 8.x or 9.x

even all the new imacs the school got were running 9.x because IT wouldent let them run 10.x because and i quote

"the werent ready to give it tech support because they are morons"

so i do agree with you on that point,
and even after they updated to 10.1 they had it dissabled cause they are morons but at that point i didnt need it anymore

Yep, that's the general look. The G5s are pretty power hungry, and that's the reason people think Apple hasn't come out with a G5 powerbook yet.

It's ok.

It's not spectacular, but I suppose I'm more biased towards "modular" computers. Don't get me wrong, I use Macs (I have an original Bondi Blue iMac) but this one just seems, unimpressive.

I know I tell people to NEVER buy these types of computers and when they break (and they do, no computer is perfect) they bitch when theyre out of a computer for a week, and I give em an I told you so.

I believe at Hardforums, gigglebyte (however his name is spelt) said almost all parts are user replaceable. He works for apple or runs an apple store, something to that effect.

it looks alright. no screamin look at me! look at me!! stuff this time. just sleek. it matches the new 20-30" apple display line,...cept its a little thicker is all. guess people haven't seen enough of the new widescreen apple displays. wide is good. and the resolutions for the 17" versions have never been seen on desktops before that i know of.

plus its quiet. silentpcreview.com has a thing on it. 25db.

Pics? 😛

Edit: ok i got beat to that punch.. haha......
