Who Else Thinks Anime is Cool?

chu, you are one lazy man.. you just copied your post from another thread and pasted right over here.. try harder 😛

a word on panchira : yeah so what if a show has some upskirt shots. matrix2 must suck ass cuz they show people having sex in that movie and the girl is fugggly at it. what PERVS. accusing anime shows for having 'service shots' would be like when you find someone playing duke nukem and you call him a perv for those pr0n flicks on the movie theater level.

i disagree with eva being overrated. it sure gets overly analyzed by certain cliques, its a fine piece of art in terms of character development. i would have a whole lot of respect for anyone who preffered the tv version of ending to the movie one. movie was still eva but its blech 😛 well at least i rate it order of magnitudes higher than samurai deeper kyo. most manga fans seem to hate the anime version, if that means anything to you 😛

!! WAY too many flashbacks,
try karekano, from the of masters of editing and recycling, aka GAINAX 😀

virtualgames0, i wonder how this relates to your passionate hatred toward the AG monitors. i say that cuz i love the way my fav anime shows look on my NF diamondtrons 😉

Anime is good, but some people get way too into it, IE the cosplay people.

I went into an anime store to buy a doll for my girlfriend and everyone in there was white, male and over 250, which is just a little bit creepy

Some are good, some are crap. Well I haven't really watched anything that I thought was crappy but that's because I just get the ones that people say are good and usually are. The one that got my attention so far is Full Metal Alchemist. Just enjoyable to watch. And if you want overrated crap, I remember one time that I went to J-town in L.A (japan town or something) and I saw this "army vest" from Naruto(the one that Kakashi wears) and I swear it was like crappily made. The fabric is thin and the whole thing is just like crap and I saw it tagged for 250 bucks or so. What's sad is someone probably bought it too. 😕

DBZ, Sailor Moon, Digimon, Pokemon shouldn't be considered anime, more like garbage for selling merchandise.

Chu, you'd pick Fruit Basket over Chobits? :|

I did not like Berserk or Noir. Berserk (the anime... I HATE manga elitists) was just.. "bleh". Just a bunch of bloody violence. Noir draaaaaaaaaaaaaggged. If I see those big blue eyes blinking one more time.... arrgh!! WAY too many flashbacks, and WAY to many times do they say "Noir!"

Berserk is A LOT more than just violence. Guts grows as a character tremendously by the end of the series as does caska. Judeau also plays an important role and you get to see everyone along their path to fulfill Griffith's dream as well as the Band of the Hawk.

How many episodes did you watch?

seriously, read the book by Toshio Okada before you start ranting about cliche. most things in the entertainment world really isnt 100% creative; rather they use some of the same elements or the similar structure, or a certain formula you might call it, set forth by one of those ground breaking pieces of work, and then add their own 'flavor' and twist to it. how many vampire movies or machine vs man type of movies have been out there? but people still like them and there are more and more of those coming out each year.

here are some of my 2002 favorites :

Mahoromatic ~motto utsukushii mono~
Kanon
Nurse Witch Komugichan
Love Hina Again
Rizelmine
Sispri RePure
Onegai Teacher
12 kouki
UFO Princes Warukyure
Chobits
Pitaten
Haibane Renmei

As for me?

I've seen a bunch - Trigun, Big O, Cowboy Bebop, Akira, Gundam Wing, etc....

And most of it I really don't like, sorry. The unrealistic characters and repetitive drawings, etc....

BUT, there are some good shows!

For one, I REALLY like 'Big O'! The style of drawing is classy (VERY film noir - and they know it, many stories fall into this catagory). The characters are 'realistic' looking - still clearly cartoons - but like comic-book heroes. Properly proportioned without saucer-sized eyes or anything. The story is great. And the US dubbing is *excellent*.

'Witch Hunter Robin' I like for similar reasons. Decent looking characters, VERY cool drawing style (reminded me a LOT of the PC game "The Longest Journey"), good dubbing, etc.

So, I'd say anime is cool if you give it a try! Stay away from the mainstream stuff....because it's probably aimed at kids, anyway. But, there is a lot of good anime out there!

when you say you dont like saucer-sized eyes... you are falling for the same folly you are warning people against - seems like you havnt tried anime that isnt mainstream and has cute looking characters. i for one certainly wouldnt call either di gi charat or komugichan 'mainstream'. they are anything but aimed at kids (save for panyo panyo maybe, but that series doesnt get treated in the same vein as the rest of di gi charat series) so i say how about you take that own advice of yours and start exploring the genres less familiar to you? there is a lot of 'good' cute looking anime out there 😉

drawing style isnt everything either. i admit thats the first thing i look at when i pick a series to watch (strong preference toward the likes of Onegai series or anything by Broccoli, M.O.E.), but there are some good exceptions to this rule. daphne's drawing style still kinda erks me, but i am sooo glad i didnt stop with eps1. truly amazing show imo, arguably one of the best out this year.

Holy fanservice batman . . . and jeez, some of those series really scare me. Rizelmine for instance, nope, no problem sexualizing girls in 7th grade . . .

hey its all good as long as you are not in it for fanservice itself. some of them just happen to have tons of fanservice, but dont write them off just for that... try to see the good comedy lies beneath it 😉

I have . . . issues . . . with Chobits. Issues that would probably start a flame war if I brought them up 😉 I will one thing though, I think CLAMP gets away with all sorts of stuff that people would view VERY differently if the studio wasn't run by women.

Only a few i like... most i find annoying actually. Like Dragonball Z, i just cannot understand wtf is the appeal to that. I liked .hack//sign, Cowboy Bebop, Akira (first Anime i ever saw), Ghost in the Shell, and i'm sure a couple more. But i find most anime are for adolescent boys and girls.

You have not seen Anime until you have seen Rurouni Kenshin OVA 1. Period.

Kenshin blows donkey nuts.
No, he definitely isn't into bestiality.

Besides, if you think the Trust & Betrayal OVA sucks, then may a curse befall your entire bloodline.
