Who else smokes shisha?

So for christmas, my dad got me a hookah. It's pretty damned spiffy, and will definatly save me some money, because I don't have to go to hookah lounges anymore. It already has, actually.

He only got me apricot and apple for flavors initially. I really enjoyed smoking honey while I was at lounges, and I'm told that double apple, cherry and cola are like vital to smoking hookah.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

(This is about smoking flavoured tobacco, not pot, or any other illegal substance)

I tried some apple once. It tasted like apple, but in the end I realized I was just smoking tobacco and put it down for my own good.

Except that the tobacco doesn't actually burn if you're not a dumba$$, and you only burn off the flavoured molasses/honey.

Except that it's not a fad in my family. My mom's side (Armenian), grew up in Lebanon, and the hookah practically originated in that area. People have been doing it since ancient times, how is it a fad?

it's not really a fad as people have been doing it for over a 100 years.

i personally dont like it and dont smoke it...it feels like crap to me. my friends do it...and apparently if you put some vodka in the hookah, it messes you up good....same goes for putting in those halls cough thingies.

But you know what I mean. These young "hipsters" smoke their "hookah" because it's fashionable. Usually the same people with Macs and drive VWs.

I only respect the people who did it before it became part of American pop culture.

You are, but there's very little of the same ****** in cigerettes. When you exhale hookah smoke it's gone in less than 5 seconds, because there's less crap in it.

The hell are you talking about? Who do you know that starting smoking hookahs because it was cool?

This (hot) persian friend of mine has a huge four person hookah. its definately fun to smoke out of. mellows you out a bunch!

well most of my friends who do smoke it grew up in the middle east. i haven't seen any non-ethnic folks (read: the whiteys) smoking it....actually i didn't even think it was a fad in that sense.

A friend of mine (from Lebanon) used to smoke the hookha. Didn't know about it until he lost the use of one of his legs. Went for tests and found that he had lung cancer that had (not surprisingly) caused secondary brain tumors (5). I ask you this question:

How can this be good?

Sorry, I didn't know he smoked in the first place so I surely don't know how long he has smoked. He is in his mid 40's so it could have been for a long time.

With all we know about the effects of smoking on the human body it still amazes me that people even think about doing this. I guess it's a form of natural selection where the less-fit to survive get killed off. Unfortunately, these are the same people who need EXTENSIVE medical treatment that is usually funded by the rest of us.

*shrug* It's a once a week thing for me, if that. I've been living my 19 years around people who smoke 2 packs a day or more. Smoking is impossible for me to get away from, and I just don't care anymore. You only live once, enjoy your life while you have it. If I screw myself up smoking my hookah, then so be it.
