Can't wait until this movie comes out. I think it'll be better than Spidey 2 <puts on flame suit>

I'm excited about the fact that a company that makes modems (U.S. Robotics) is apparently the company that makes these killer (?) robots in the movie.

I dunno....we'll see. I'm sorta iffy on it right now from the trailers I have seen. Looks like another movie that will disappoint when compared to the book. Who knows? I do know that I'm getting a bit tired of Will Smith, Action Hero. That's probably just me though.

Books came out long before U.S. Robotics existed, and it's US Robots and Mechanical Men, anyway.

Ah, it's based on a book? Heh, whoops. :)

Nonetheless, it's still U.S. Robotics in the movie (as evidenced by a link on their main page -http://www.usr.com/home.asp)

It reminds me of the Animatrix. I don't know, it just doesn't really appeal to me, but hope it turns out to be good.

I really didn't like the first Spider-Man (I don't know what it is, but I just think it could've been better), but the 2nd one is looking to be much better. It reminds me of the comics more than any Superhero flick so far (this is of course based on the previews/trailers).

Not to hijack this thread, but I wish they'd make a Gambit and Wolverine movie and let it have an R rating. They have screwed up big time by not having Gambit in the X-Men movies and they have kinda subdued Wolverine too much.

How? He hasn't been in a movie in a while now. I think Bad Boys II was the last one...

I'll see it in theaters if for no other reason than because it's based on Isaac Asimov's work.

I don't think it can quite be a Matrix clone when its based off of a book that was written I assume well before any of the Matrix movies came out.

Hopefully it won't suck like "The Bicentennial Man"...

...oh, yeah, and it's well-known that U.S. Robotics has actually taken its name in hommage to Asimov's work...

I was pretty convinced that he was pissed when Martin Lawrence shot the dash of his Ferrari 575 Maranello...

BTW, best line from Bad Boys II: "Aw damn, it's the niggras." I nearly fell over.

I'm kind of looking forward to this movie. I'm a big Asimov fan, one of my all time favorite writers, and I like Will Smith's movies. They're usually entertaining.

being an Asimov fan I welcome the movie.

Is the movie based of a book, or the general universe that Asimov created?

SilverTorch:

It's a combination.

"Based" on Caves of Steel (but named after I, Robot), but it seems like the movie is about robots attacking humans.. which happens in exactly zero of Asimov's books.

#1) Will Smith Blows.
#2) It looks to be just another action movie with little substance, capitalizing on the success of Matrix style movies (humans vs robots) even though the story of this came first
#3) They'll butcher the original story.
#4) See #2

I'm sort of sickened by my lack of surprise at Hollywood taking one of the most impactful pieces of science fiction television and turning it into a goddamn neo-luddite action flick.

I wonder why the choose I, Robot for a movie. The book isn't even suited to be one since it's a bunch of short stories. And I guess this movie proves this because it has almost no relation to the book what so ever (atleast from the trailers I've seen). Rather odd some of the books that are chosen to be movies.

Yes because it looks good, but no because the only similarity it has with the book is the title.

But I agree with EarthwormJim, the book would have made a crappy movie.
