For me the reason I hate protestors isn't because of the message they bring. Heck I encourage people to speak out. But enough is enough!! Today I was stuck in traffic because stoopid protestors were...protesting, so they had to block off some major streets.

A few reasons why I hate protestors:

1.) They have no consideration for the well-being of others: they don't care if you're inconvenienced at all, they don't care if the bus driver is late for his route, they don't care if a guy can't see his girl because of the traffic (no...not me...a guy my friend is seeing couldn't come over to see her cuz of the traffic).

2.) Honk if you want peace. As if there wasn't enough honking in LA already. Not to mention what if I want my honk to mean something else? They don't have a right to jack the symbolism of my honk!

3.) They don't clean up after themselves. All over UCLA there is chalk/flyers left over from protestors. Some of the chalk have been there for months. It cost taxpayer $ to get this $hit cleaned up!

4.) They really don't sway the opinion of anyone. How many people drive/walk by a protest and suddenly go.."oh...lookie there...a lotta people chanting...i think i'll join their side!"

5.) They are hypocritical. At the anti-war protest at UCLA, protestors actively tried to beat up pro-war protestors. So they think violence suddenly is the solution now?

6.) They have nothing informative to say. All they do is chant something like "hell no...we won't go!" or "Not in our name!"

7.) They don't reveal who funds them. If you protest, you should reveal who funds you. For all we know these guys are funded by the KKK!

8.) Everyone thinks protests are the answer. Sorry guys, protests were the answer in the 60's, but you're about four decades behind. Not to mention all protests are the same. All you have to do is switch the signs, and you can't tell which protests are which!

Ok...so those are my thoughts. Anyone else hate protestors? =/

-Ed

Yes, I?m sure all the protestors do all these things. I hate people who generalize others. We live in a democracy, no? How can you be one to say if protests are right or not, apparently millions of people believe in them. You say you don't hate protestors, well, then you should not worry about them inconveniencing yourself for a few minutes and think about something important instead of yourself.

Sure, the United States is the only country in which a majority of the population agrees with the war in Iraq, and Bush defies many of the most powerful nations on Earth by going ahead with a unilateral invasion of Baghdad, as well as nullifying the United Nations, an international moderating party which we helped to create. Not to mention the Iraqi people whose blood will be on the hands of our armed forces...

I hope you get stuck on the freeway or street for hours on your way home/ movies/visit soemoen or whatever, then you can come tell us how great it was to be inconvienenced.....im sure you will enjoy it..😛

And we wonder why the French (and the rest of the world) say America is arrogant...we are going to Gulf War II, thousands of innocent civilians will lose their lives, more will lose their livelihoods and their homes, American and Iraqi soldiers will die, and the worst thing you can imagine is being stuck on the freeway.

Ok...how about I set up a protest blocking off ur street about AIds or Cancer and how there is a lack of medical research being done? Thousands of innocent civilians will lose their lives. Some families will be devestates as their sole bread winner undergoes expensive medical treatment. The protest will keep you from getting to your house, keep you stuck in traffic...blah blah blah.

Try using a better argument.

I dont understand yours Ed, that sounds like a good idea, cancer awareness is probably worth more than an hour of my life, you could take up collections and help save lives. I would probably miss the simpsons though.

Stupid post, you are just brainwashed big time....

Do some creative thinking on your own, read some philosophy and history books, turn off the TV for a month, go overseas for a while to get some diffrient perspective on life...
Do it now until it is not too late for ya

This is the best topic ever. Seriously.

Don't let the forum hippies try to say that your arguments are invalid. They're still trying to argue and protest a war that:

1. They could not stop and had no influence over whatsoever.
2. Already pretty much started. Why continue whining?

Whining? Who's whining? It's called protesting, arguing, dissenting. It's what makes a democracy. Get used to it.

And for all you who can't manage to take a few minutes out of your life to see another point of view (be it for or against war) you need to lighten up and open your mind. Your position is not always right, and this closed-mindedness is what creates these problems in the first place.

Try picking up Civil Disobedience by Henry David Thoreau. This is a centuries-old technique; believe it or not, peaceniks today did not invent breaking up your normal routine to get their point across. It's the way the minority gets heard.

There were no parts of my post referring to myself having any influence.

As for your "another point of view" section. I definitely respect those with other points of views and try to see things from both sides. My beef is with protesters.

There is no need to try to push your thoughts, beliefs, etc down the throats of others when they probably don't want you around.

Homosexuals who go out of their way to show the world that they are gay are the same way. Most everyone respects their choice to be gay and would rather not have flagrant displays to prove it. People need to learn to keep to themselves.

my major gripe is probably a good 50%+ don't know enough about what they are protesting about to really justify their being there... instead of the library looking up actual information😛

you generalize protestors as "they". well some of those protestors happen to be my grandfather who fought in WW2 and my father who fought in vietnam.

Using disparaging terms and attacking the character of those who disagree with you doesn't really fall under "respect"

There is no need to try to push your thoughts, beliefs, etc down the throats of others when they probably don't want you around.

During this time of war, when unthinking patriotism and complacency is getting shoved down the throats of all Americans, I'd say the protestors are doing us a service by "shoving" the opposite side down our throats. If you don't want them around, don't listen to them and carry on your way having simply learned the point of view of someone else.

Homosexuals who go out of their way to show the world that they are gay are the same way. Most everyone respects their choice to be gay and would rather not have flagrant displays to prove it. People need to learn to keep to themselves.

There, you're wrong. "Most everyone" does not respect the "choice" (by calling it a choice I'd say you disrespect what they inherently call homosexuality) they make, as evidenced by incidences of hate crimes, extremist groups who attack gays and companies who employ them, etc. Until a gay person is elected into a position of power and can speak the will of the gay community without having parades and such, I can see why their flamboyant expressions are necessary.

My bad...I didn't know your grandfather's name and ur father's name, nor what kind of protests they run. If however, they run the type of protests that I've described, then please tell me their names and I will most generously include them at your request into the group of people I hate.

So would you mind if a group of my friends protested in front of your driveway in the morning? Don't worry about being late for work, it's for a good cause!

i was driving back from a final today and had to deal with that mass of people on veteran and wilshire. i'm not against protesting, but they have to go about it in a better organized way. when they block traffic on a heavy intersection like that, it just inconveniences the daily lives of everyone else. i did find it funny, however, that we had the anti war people in front of the federal building and then groups of mini protestors on the other side of wilshire just holding up random signs hoping to grab some attention. i heard the anti-war protestors started sitting in the middle of wilshire and they had to close the street down for a while, now that must have been a pain for everyone in westwood.

Well that'd be against the law, considering you can't protest someone's house. Try again? Protests need authorization from the police...

I would like to run over (at a high rate of speed) any protester who spits on a soldier or tries to create troubles for the city I live in.

Protest Peacefully if you are protesting for peace.

We aren't protesting your house, we simply choose to protest in front of it. Perhaps we'll use your entire street. Try again?

*sigh*

Learn some law before you spout off...it's an offense to protest a private residence (i.e. my house). You cannot get a permit for it and will be hauled to jail. It's the reason why anti-abortionists can't protest doctors' homes. Get a grip.

So, if a protester causes an ambulance to be delayed and the patient dies because of this can we kill the protester?

Ok, since you seem to miss the point completely

How about I protest on the only road that leads from your house to the outside world? What if you live in an apartment complex and I protest in such a position that you are unable to leave?

My point is that it's fine to protest, but you seem to think they have every right to block other people from attending to their own business. Not only does it just turn people against them, but it can seriously disrupt people's schedules. I really *DON'T CARE* what you are protesting. Saying I'm ignorant for not wanting to stop and soak up the ambiance is assinine. Some of us have better things to do than listin to a bunch of hippie-wannabe teens spout off about stuff they don't understand.
