I was actually considering an old metro. Their gas mileage is insane. The XFi (engine detuned from 55 HP to 49 HP) is EPA rated for 51mpg highway. People have been known to get that up to 60 mpg.

However, it does take 10 seconds for it to get to 60mph which can make freeway merging difficult. Also, if you are in an accident, you'll probably be dead or in the ER.

Not a completely worthless car by any stretch of the imagination though.

Fixed :)

I drove one of those, and reaching 60 was an event. That was in the early '90s as well, it's probably rare to find one of those cars in good shape by this time.

My wife had a '95 3cyl Metro when we met. Drove the hell out of that thing, and yes, 20 secs to 60, downhill, with a tail wind and no a/c.

Replaced it with a new Jetta TDI about 6 years ago (similar mileage). The funny thing is that my father in law, who owns: a classic fastback Mustang, a 2007 F150 king cab 4x4, a 2005 Lincoln LS (stick, actually kinda fun to drive), and a bigass 2007 Caddy (his wife's daily driver) , drives the Metro as his everyday driver. He loves the thing. I have no idea why anyone would willingly put up with it at this point, but he swears by it. I forgot to mention that the roof lining fell out, he stapled it back up, and its now coming unstapled, the radio is broken, the windshield and the dash are cracked, and the last time I rode in it, it sounded like the CV joint was done. Oh, and it leaks oil, and has badly corroded off-brand chrome rims that the previous owner/wannabe thug installed. "Rollin' on 13's Yo!!"

My favorite is when he strapped a surf board on it and drove to the beach to get some waves in. A bad wind storm rolled in and half buried the wheels under sand, and he had to get towed out (remember, this man owns a 4x4 "fun" truck for offroading)

He actually drives that thing to his job - he is a project/field manager in the Nuclear Energy industry. I can't imagine what his employees think. "Eccentric" might be the nice way of saying it.

My 73 Super Beetle is in sad shape. Working on it, though, once weather permits me to work with Bondo again (I'd do it properly if it weren't already essentially worthless as far as money is concerned). I guess once 35 years have got behind what was a cheap car to begin with... :p
To it's credit, though, I doubt things would have gotten as bad as they did if the sunroof drains hadn't clogged. But the horsehair padding that used to be in the seats? Gone. Most miscellaneous plastic bits? Broken or nearly there. Rear window defroster? Broken. Parts of the anemic heating system? Completely missing. Running boards? Gone.
I could go on, but I won't.
And it's still fun to drive :D

You sure it's a 350? :D

its an 89 f250? mostly likely has a 351 windsor motor.. if not then a 302. 350 is chevy. ford had 351's and an oddball 352 in the 60's or so

unless of course.. someone in virginia had a welder and a cutter and shes a fevvy. you know, chevy powered ford.

my ride is in my sig, its not too bad for age and being in NE ohio. i cant afford gas for it and im going to college so its going up for sale soon. feel free to pm with offers its a classic daily driver. LOL all original with 130k

Yea it's a 351 Windsor, not 350. First post was a typo.

Gas mileage sucks as you can imagine. 8mpg maybe less. I try not to floor it because it will burn oil for one thing.

Also, front gas tanks leaks, passenger door won't open, one window busted out in the back, heater core leaks so I drive with windows down in winter, rear-view mirror fell off, tires leak, engine won't warm itself up in winter unless you sit there and pump the pedal, brakes went out but we fixed that, and it smells terrible. I can't think of anything else off the top of my head. Can you believe it passed emissions though? Engine and trans seems to be in great shape for the most part.

How'd you like our Ohio snow storm? I put it to good use :) but the following hot days made short work of it :(.

lawl, very nice. where at in ohio? im in pro football HOF city. my gas tank leaks too :). i got a 1992 chevy with 240k on it needs the trans swapped. shitty weather..

how the HELL did that pass emissions?!?!?!

For a very short period of time, I drove this.

1977 Cadillac Coupe DeVille, canary yellow w/ carriage top. 425 ci V-8. Rusted out everywhere, shocks were leaking, rear bumper held on with chains, broken gas gauge, cracked steering wheel, leather hard as a rock and cracked...the list goes on. I finally got rid of it when the brake lines rotted out and nearly sent me into the back of my friend's '86 Golf. :Q That might have been ugly. I ended up selling it for $450 to some guy.

More pics:

Back
In garage...it barely fit!
Back seats
View from driver's seat
Get outta mah way!
Front seats

Cheesy fake wood goodness

Lol yeah I had one of those, and it wasn't even one of the fast ones like yours. It was simply a pile of useless shit.

Funny story a GF of mine in college had a Neon(5spd "Sport" model) for about 4 years, totaled it, bought a new Accord, but hated it because she missed the "sportiness" of her Neon.

Still makes me shake my head to this day.

Women + Car = Massive Logic Fail.

*generally speaking* of course

I shudder at the thought of anyone thinking a Neon is 'sporty' (aside from the somewhat admirably peppy SRT models!)

Maybe she just wanted a lighter car w/manual. Scion TC, Mazda3, Focus S, and such would do that job with ease, and not be complete junk like the Neon.

Probably wont take the gold but:

1993 Honda Accord EX 5spd
180k miles

Problems:
1. Both back windows will not roll up all the way leaving a small gap
2. Annoying buzz coming from underneath the glove box, tied to electrical system ( has to be a short somewhere)
3. Rear main seal leaks oil, drips on exhaust and causes smoke to come from hood (smells like burning popcorn). I add around 1 quart every 1k miles.
4. Top of car paint if fading, rust in doors
5. Sight missfire (probably just a spark plug wire)
6. AC is FUBAR

Not too bad a car, but I will be selling it next month.
