In my opinion the greatest films of all time. I've watched both a thousand times. Both stand the test of time in my book.

I know there are people who don't like the Godfather films? Why? Can you give me one good reason why you think the films stink.

You need to watch both. Don't even bother with Godfather 3. It should have never been made.

Both are over 40 years old, so they may move too slowly for you. They do stand the test of time.

They suck. Boring story about annoying guidos with stupid accents.

And Coppola is, at best, an extremely unremarkable director of things that are boring.

And the first is better than the second. Anyone who says otherwise just doesn't know. Just like Alien is better than Aliens.

I use to watch The Sopranos while in Job Corp due to the fact the assholes only had HBO on the big TV in the TV room. That or BET. Total BS. I still have nightmares I'm in that horrid place.

i dont like either of those movies, they are just boring as hell to me.

casino and goodfellas on the other hand, those movies are awesome and much better than godfather.

i bet godfather was awesome at it's time, but to me it simply didn't age well. i watched part 1 and 2 for the first time 2 years ago and was very bored and disappointed with them considering all the hype around them.

and yes, the sopranos is awesome.

I really, honestly tried to watch the first one but I was so bored I just couldn't do it. Same with the first Lord of the Rings movie. Usually I can suffer through boring to get to the good parts of a movie or TV show, but not with those two series.........

I would also recommend the Godfather book. The first Godfather movie is based on the book - though there are parts of the book left out from the movie. I really like Puzo's writing style.

For the second movie, there is no book. Puzo just wrote the screenplay

it insists upon itself

But really I've seen both, didn't dislike them but were not that memorable for me.

Goodfellas is the best out of all of them by far imo.

It is an alright movie. A cheap imitation. Scorsesse isn't fit to tie the shoelaces of Coppola. Neither it has the writing of Puzo. Neither does it have the peerless Marlin Brando. Goodfellas is just another of your typical mob movie. Godfather is so much more.

I watched Goodfellas after many many many people telling me how good it was. Boy did it suck. Maybe it would have sucked less had it not been for the hordes of people saying how good it was. Everything about it sucked.

I can see why people would complain about the pace of the Godfather films; they're from a different era, and they are a lot slower than modern films. That doesn't stop me from forming an opinion about the mental acuity of someone who is unable to stay invested in a story if things aren't exploding every 12 seconds. But that's fine. Some people like chess, some people like checkers; people who don't like the Godfather like that game where someone jingles keys in front of their face.

Godfather is the answer to everything. It's 42. Every character in the film portays a certain type of person: There those who are strong, those who are weak, those you can trust and those you cant. By watching, studying and understanding the way the characters interact you can apply what you learn to real life. You can label certain people in real life as Tom Hagen the trustworthy, Michael the wise, Fredo the idiot who eventually WILL backstab you, Connie the willing victim, Sonny the angry and unpredictable, Hyman Roth the untrustworthy businessman with potential to either make you rich or ruin you... etc etc etc.
Thats my take on it. I want to be a Michael or a Tom, but if I am honest with myself then I know I am a Fredo, and I now try everything I can to NOT be a Fredo.

I have a hard time holding a conversation with someone who says they couldnt stand or understand the Godfather or The Wire.

Part III was horribly paced/shot but the script may have had potential. They should have shot it more as if it was its own film.
