I wonder how many people on this board have careers or are studying something besides any computer related field?

I'm studying to be a financial planner.

Hopefully in about 2 years I'll have all my certs.

Judging by your post, you do not plan to have one in English Arts. I do not "plan" on having one 'nor do I place myself in the same category of a lot of members here but, I do have an everlasting need of knowledge in the IT field from Windows to Networks...to Avionics!

Being personally in the aviation field, it helps to know a little about different operating systems and knowing the wonderful "Departure to Threshold" systems that will be available shortly.

Well I was a Computer Engineering drop out. I wish I had gone for Computer Science so I could have finished and at least get a good job now.

I spent 4 years at a construction company doing Purchasing, Accounts Payable, and computer support among other things until the company went under. Then I was a Project Coordinator for 1 /12 years managing projects at a manufacturing company, but quit last summer. Most recent I was a Warrenty Service Manager for a homebuilder of multi-million dollar mansions. That got sickening real fast, getting bitched at by millionaires constantly for sh!t I had no control over in the first place. And being on call I had to put up with it 24x7! Luckilly I just got fired a week and a half ago. They were very strict on timeliness, and I was too often a few minutes late from my 50 mile commute.

Once again I'll try getting my foot in the door somewhere where I can work with computers. Without a degree or certificate it sucks. So stay in school guys!

Being unemployed around Christmas sucks. Most of the available jobs right now are in retail. I have an interview tomorrow for a computer sales job so I can start getting some cash in my pocket. NO its not at Best Buy - I'm not brain-dead enough to qualify to work there! But it is a similar environment. With commission tho. Actually this could be like a vacation from stress.

I'm not in the computer field. I'm in the construction industry with an inside office job. Part of my job is to keep the network running and whatnot but it isn't the only thing I do.

I really consider myself lucky considering the amount I make anually vs. my education (ie. no degree or certification). I hope this job holds out or I'll have a tough time finding another this easy.

hmmm... i have am working on a computer science degree, but i really dont want to program all day. i think its a good degree to get to fall back on if you want to do something crazy. i want to start my own business doing something someday, but if i fail, i can just get a computer job.

I was working on my MA in Special Ed but after working for a year in our cruddy school system, I'm not sure if I still want to follow that path. I had just started the process when I got pregnant, so I can still switch over to MA in Counseling Ed, which would qualify me as a Guidance Counselor or, with certification, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.

However, all of this takes a backseat to raising my kids.

I'll get there eventually!

:)

I haven't nor will I ever have a computer related job. I'm a Chef and couldn't ever dream of sitting in front of a machine all day long, no matter ho much I was offered.

I'm a programmer/net admin but I'm thinking of getting out of computers. The salary would be sorely missed, but dammit I'm starting to hate the computer industry.

I'm going back to school to get my Master's in education, in order to be an elementary school teacher. :)

I was doing work in Web Design, but I don't think I want to spend all my time for years to come sitting in front of a computer.
