The Olympics have become a joke since the end of the Cold War. Jesse Owens clobbering "the Master Race" in '36, Peggy Flemming in '68, Scott Hamilton in '84, the '80 Hockey Team, Cassius Clay '60, Mary Lou Retton in '84, 1980 and 1984 Summer Olympics, etc.
The Olympics were every 4 years, and was a big deal as we did not have ESPN, 24 hours of NFL, Fox Sports, etc. Hell, there was no internet, twitter, facebook, or other "instant news" to get this. Besides ABC's Wide World of Sports, there wasn't much.
The Olympics were special...a time for the family to watch together, be American, and beat the god-damn Commies. Now, it's about a bunch of prima donnas working to become professionals for the money and endorsements. It doesn't hold the same level; unless of course, Osama bin Laden wants to enter a team...
