Disregarding chemistry between members and stage charisma (except perhaps in the frontman), who in your opinion would form the ultimate band supergroup? Members do not necessarily have to be from the same era, and should be evaluated purely on the basis of musicality and creativity.

Good picks, though I think I would prefer Chris Cornell on vocals and Danny Carey on drums.

Vocals: Freddie Mercury (Queen)
Bass: Les Claypool (Primus)
Lead Guitar: Doug Gilmour (P.Floyd)
2nd Guitar: Carlos Santana or Eric Clapton (tough one)
Drums: John Bonham (Led Zepp)
Keyboards: Elton John
Song Writing: Billy Corgan, Roger Waters, or Bob Dylan (tough one)

All of these guys embody "musicality" and "creativity" from their respected eras IMO.

From the living:

Leads: Eddie Van Halen and Steve Stevens
Bass: Geddy Lee (vocals)
Drums: Neil Peart
Additional Percussion: Stewart Copeland
Lead Vocal: Ronnie Dunn (just need to clean up some of the twang)
Additional Backing Vocals: Shakira, Geddy Lee

Controversial, but Shakira actually can sing and would be a wonderful fill without having hips. Ronnie Dunn in "My Maria" says it all which some real note control. Steve Stevens? He is the lead for Billy Idol. Stewart Copeland? The Police. He did all the music in The Equalizer and Dead Like Me. Neil Peart is the king. I did hesitate on Bass as I like Michael Derosier (sp?) of Heart (before Bebe La Strange where Nancy and Annie kicked him and Roger Fischer out). But part of that was because he tried to play the bass more like lead (think Crazy on You and Magic Man). Eddie, Jimi's heir apparent and since Stevie Ray Vaughn died in a helicopter crash... And having Geddy on bass gives fun vocal fun.

If I could have someone dead, I would want Ofra Haza in place of Shakira.

The problem with the supergroup is everyone wants to play lead...

I like the idea of a great lead guitarist, a rythm guitarist and bassist who can play their part and not screw up, a spectacular drummer, and a vocalist who doesn't irritate. And most of all, someone has to write great songs or none of the playing ability matters.

bass/vocals: Geddy Lee
drums: John Bonham. Considered Peart but didn't want two RUSH members
vocals: Vedder

Not to hijack here, but I've seen them live so many times and honestly have never seen better musicians, save for SRV the night before he died :(
Actually talked to Bela, and he said "Did I play ok tonight?" most humble man on earth.
