I've never met any of the presidents personally (nor am I old enough to have met many), so I cant really tell, and judging from history, well...

<< there's a big difference with a president who actually did stuff and a president who had 'great things' happen while he's in the office. >>

... quite true. I think many presidents are defined by what's happening at the time (which is usually set in motion by previous presidents/events). Oh, yeah, and getting killed helps too. "If someone hated him so much as to assassinate him, he must have done something great." Heh.

<< Chester A. Arthur -- he was TITE!! >>

Lol, you've heard of him! He went to school in my (small hick)town, they're thinking about making a museum of some sorts for him. As if someone would stop to see the 'Chester Arthur Schoolhouse'.

Abraham Lincoln. It is far more difficult to repair a badly broken nation then to create it anew. This is not to take anything away from Jefferson and Washington, as they, too, were extraordinary men.

It certainly was NOT FDR, unless one defines "greatness" as moving the country away from it's founding principles and toward socialism.

<< I like Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson, both Roosevelts and Reagan. Its been a long time since I studied my presidents so I don't know which one I think is best. I think Lincoln is overrated. I believe Reagan to be the President with the most influence on my life so far. Carter is the earliest president I can remember. George W. is setting himself up for a lot better spot in history books than Clinton or his dad will hold. >>

Jackson? Disolving the national bank, trail of tears, am I missing something? FDR I love as a war-time president, but I simply can not accept what he did in attempt to pull us out of the depression. Teddy was cool, some Latin American issues somewhat mars his image though.

<< I take it there are no Millard Fillmore fans here. >>

Now name one thing he did wrong!

Andrew Jackson, I loved reading stories about this man. Talk about a MAN.

Teddy, I liked teddy too. If teddy had been President during the late 70's and or late 80's (1900's here, not 1800's) he woulda put a stop to communism real quick.

andrew jackson would never have gotten elected in the modern era because he was too brash.

Hey, Ronnie was a bad cat, How many Presidents had caps busted in them and came back afterwards? I say RR was the man, although I find it Ironic that one of the greatest leaders of our country was the star of flicks like "Bedtime for Bonzo" 😀

Brash? I was thinking more of the lines of racist...

<< Were you even alive or old enough to vote when Reagan was president >>

if that is your criteria for deciding if a president is great or not, then the question is mute as no one is old enough to have voted to all the presidens.

silly humans

I'd have to say Washington, with Teddy, Lincoln, and Jefferson as close 2nd's....Washington could have been king or president for life if he had wanted it. He gave us strength and solidity when the country could have crumbled into factions.

definitely not george w bush.

i guess my pick is bill clinton 🙂 he's the best one i know since i have been alive.
