Who do you guys recommend for super "clean" classical recordings?

I have three cd's with 'Clair de lune', all three in various realms of crappiness in their quality.

Now that I have a decent headphone setup, I can hear all the damn crackles/noises.

Any manufacturer/collection have some crystal clear recordings?

i wasn't aware clair de lune had movements, i thought it was part of Suite bergamasque.

Check out Telarc, Reference Recordings, Gothic, JAV, as I have had the most luck with these publishers in terms of ultimate sound quality. (with extreme dissatisfaction with RCA label)

Something like this may do it for ya. Plus other nice piano solos on there.

No prob! Such a beautiful piece of music is ruined by pops and other defects! Worst thing is during a delicate soft passage, and a +20db spppppffttt interrupts the music!

I guess it depends on what type of classical music, as there are a lot of audiophile labels out there, but they don't usually release mainstream stuff...as mentioned, Telarc is usually pretty safe, but don't forget Deutsche Grammophon, Chesky, Sony Classical, Warner Classics, EMI...they all do good work. I tend to focus more on the performance, conductor and orchestra than necessarily how cleanly it was recorded. Also, if you have an SACD player, classical and jazz are mostly what's been holding that segment up. Living Presence (Mercury) and Living Stereo (RCA) were HUGE names back in the heyday of vinyl and they both have gone back through their archives and painstakingly remastered them for SACD, and they're almost all SACD and CD prints, so you can play them in a normal player as well.
