I remember someone posted a thread about losing a CD and someone gave him a number to call. I can't find that thread. Anyone know? My Office XP CD is scratched but I have the key so I just need a disc.

MS won't replace my damaged Flight Sim 2002 CDs (Not caused by abuse or neglect, two of them just started freaking losing data, the third annhilated my CD drive and immense damage was done by the plastic.) You might be in the same boat.

that's one thing about the whole copyright thing that I'm confused about.

If you buy a copy of say windows, You own a license to use that software. So in your case, you could legally download a pirated copy and use your serial number right?

In theory, yes. In practice, it's frowned upon. Especially since with, for example, Windows XP, your license is NOT for the version commonly distributed as warez (Unless you bought a volume license. And then microsoft does not freaking care what you do anyway, and if you don't have 50 bajillion different CDRs with various configurations slipstreamed and ready to go, you don't deserve to own a volume license because you suck at teh wind0wz.)

If you call them, I'm sure they will send you a replacement CD for a price.

We had a customer who lost their Small Business Server 2000 CDs. We called MS and they were able to get them replaced.
