Who Didn't Know what "Purple Drank" was until yesterday?

Yah, I was prescribed it a while ago for a nasty cough. Was curious and looked up the drug on wikipedia. Pretty hardcore narcotic, metabolized to morphine in the body. I definitely got buzzed from it. Promethazine which is what the codeine is mixed with in the cough syrup used for purple drank also gets you tipsy as well.

Yeah, I can't remember when I found out about it, but it's really only "popular", if you will, in the deep south. Georgia and Alabama come to mind.

I didn't know all the ingredients, but I knew the primary one was cough syrup.

Yep. Specifically syrup with either Codeine or DXM.
Or both. :awe:

You couldn't grow up in New Orleans and not hear the words "purple drank".

To those who say its racist, I suppose you could take that angle. However, it wasn't the white people that used the term regularly. It was always the black kids that yelled about that "purple drank".

Our school even had purple drank in the vending machine.

I guess that's vaguely similar to a drink invented by my friend and I.

-few tablespoons of cough syrup containing dextromethorphan
-few shots of lemon juice
-few shots of vodka
-fill to the top with sprite

Actually no. DXM and Codeine are in completely different classes of drugs...
