It seems like the ending didn't fit the movie. DeNiro's character was so smart, and so badass. It seems like they made him go back to the hotel, just so they could let the police win and give it a hollywood ending.

When I watch the movie, I wait for the part when DeNiro and his girlfriend are driving away in their car (just before he turns around to go back to the hotel) and thats when I turn the movie off. That would have been the perfect ending for the movie.

deniro. love that movie. one of my all-time favorites. and i liked the ending. he got his vengenace against waingro, and it would have ended lame without the final showdown between pacino and deniro. and he stuck true to his word, "if you see the heat coming around the corner"...

Cool! Hope they fix the problem with the brightness change. It's right at Chapter 17, 0:54:28.

Charlize Theron. To show her boobies of course. What a letdown.

WTF? Charlize Theron wasn't in Heat. That was Ashley Judd!!!!!

BTW, I was rooting for Deniro of course:D

Oh. I get them confused.

Ah well. I'm always rooting for Charlize Theron to show her boobies, so nyah.

how come the SWAT didn't help out the cops? Didn't have enough time to mobilize? Just surprised that the cops didn't hit any of the bad guys...except the driver of the getaway car

I don't think it was a stretch to believe that he would choose to go after Waingro. De Niro's character wasn't used to being beaten by anybody (except for that time he spent in jail, I guess), and this made him a little arrogant. Classic case of hubris leading to his own downfall.

He broke his own rules by going back. "Have no attachments, have nothing in your life that you can't walk out on in 30 sec flat if you spot the heat around the corner." The heat was certainly at the hotel.
I really wanted to see him get away, because he deserved to.

woohoo, announced today at davisdvd...
We have a great scoop from fellow reader Zack this morning: Warner Home Video's next batch of two-disc special editions due in May will include Around the World in 80 Days, Blazing Saddles: 30th Anniversary Special Edition, Heat (sweet!), Purple Rain and the criminally underrated Wyatt Earp. Unfortunately, there are no official details on disc specs, street dates or exact nature of extras yet. Good stuff from Warner Bros!
2-disc Heat AND Blazing Saddles! :D

"excuse me while i whip this out!"

I'm always partial towards Pacino. I like them both, of course. How else would you end the movie without having them both faceoff? It was the perfect ending. Both understood each other and each others' roles. Their mutual respect is evident when they shook hands at the end. You can't ask for a more powerful ending.

"Heat" so far is my all time favorite adaption of the old "cop and robber" theme.
