I don't think the poll should be considered seriously.. from looking at it; it is based on 1004 respondents.

First, we declared independence from Mexico. Then we declared independence from the Yankees.

Idiocracy is here.... 40% of people 18-29 missed the question. And 33% of those under the age of 45. Wow, the youth of America is either dumb or just doesn't care. After all, it's just a piece of paper. :)

If someone said England or United Kingdom, does that count as Great Britian?

If you look at the poll data, most of the incorrect responses were due to the answer "unsure"

So, overall, 74% said Great Britain (or something close to it), 20% said "I don't know" (or something to that effect), and the remaining 6% said some other country.

Since the article mentions Mexico, China, etc. as responses, they must have grouped answers like UK, England, etc. with Great Britain.

On the bright side, the % unsure is consistently much higher than the % of people who answered a wrong country.

If you had paid attention in English class maybe you'd know what the possessive form is. "Blamb's alternator sized slab of beef for brains." Does not mean Blamb is, does it little numb skull?

Look who got reverse pwned today.

I actually asked my 11 year old daughter this question this morning (it's actually something I ask my kids every year). I had to put it in multiple choice form as she couldn't remember off the top of her head. She got it right in multiple choice form.

Better than my sons, who last year yelled out "The Germans". Too much Call of Duty.

Huh? "Its" is the possessive form of it, not "It's."

Wow....please tell me you're trolling. You don't use an apostrophe to designate possession with pronouns. You don't say "I went for a ride in his' car" do you?

Oh, right... this study is racist/sexist/classist. No conclusions can be drawn from this, except that wealthy white males are clearly at fault for everything.

Oh god, the fail is strong here.

I remember being the only one in my 4th-grade class who got this right, and I didn't even know why it was true at the time - I just knew.

And why are women apparently so bad at this question?

Who are these 18-29 year olds they are polling? This is like the most known fucking shit ever.

Don't these kids watch Colbert Report and The Daily Show? THEY REFERENCE THAT LIKE ALL THE TIME!

I am disappoint with this. :|

http://maristpoll.marist.edu/wp-con...r vacation/Nature of the Sample_Residents.pdf I see their methodology, but including any landlines is beastly wrong. It will skew the results very much (i.e. in dah dumb and senile).

They must have polled morons or ABANDON ALL HOPE IN OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM! (Or improve it)
