Dear Recruiting Manager,

I learned about the career opportunity from your job post on XXX, and I would like to submit my resume for the xxx position. I am very excited about the prospect of working for your company, and believe that my education and employment background are appropriate for the position.

My xxx degree in Finance demonstrates both my keen interest and analytical ability in finance. I also have a solid foundation in accounting, which is verified by the passing of three sections on the CPA exam and the certificate in Accounting from xxx university. I believe my analytical and numerical skills will translate well to the position I am applying.

In my previous position as a XXX, I was responsible for assessing clients' qualification for tax credits and analyzing payroll and tax information. I gained an in-depth knowledge in taxation through preparing adjusted tax return and generating tax credits for our clients. Prior to that, I worked as an XXX. I have acquired proficiency in implementing accounting functions such as, A/R, G/L, and account reconciliation. Both positions required a significant amount of teamwork. Therefore, I am confident that I have the interpersonal skills necessary for the success in this position.

My enthusiasm for becoming an XXX was reinforced after talking to professionals at various levels in the XXX industry. As one of the top XXX firms, XXX.inc is congruent with my career interests. I believe your company is a perfect fit to my academic background and working experience.

I look forward to meeting with you and sharing more about my qualifications to work for your company. Thank you for your consideration.

Respectfully yours,

XXX

Looks really good. Maybe try to take out some of the I as the subject of every sentence? Overall it looks good.

Maybe take some of the r&r from the job posting and directly tie your skills/experience to those?

-edit
"Therefore, I am confident that I have the interpersonal skills necessary for the success in this position. "

Could use "soft skills" as well. remove "the" before success

Something about the first sentence doesn't read right to me...I think because you've addressed "the career opportunity" and then define it as xxx in the last section of the sentence.

Maybe: "I learned of the recent career opportunity for xxx, from your posting on XXX, and would like to submit my resume for the position."

How about: "I learn of the XXX position from your positing on XXX, and would like to submit my resume for the position"? It's a bit less wordy.

Actually, it's too straight to the point. Um...I still like my original line better.

It looks quite good (just a couple of small suggested changes).

Although I don't see how all of your experience working in the XXX industry as a porn star will relate to working for an accounting firm. 😉

Dear Recruiting Manager, <- I would try to find out the name. Not that hard to do.

I am seeking a career opportunity at XXX Inc. and am attaching a resume for the xxx position (Job Posting #XXX). I am well qualified for the position and firmly believe that I can contribute much to the company.

As the XX position requires, I am experienced and proficient in the field of finance & accounting. My educational background includes B.S. in Finance from XXX and Certificate of Accounting from XXX, and I am in the process of obtaining a CPA license (3 exams completed). I am currently employed at xxx as an xxx and am seeking to (state reason for seeking new job perhaps.)

I am currently responsible for assessing clients' qualifications for tax credits, as well as analyzing payroll and general tax information. With in-depth knowledge in Federal/State tax laws and accounting rules, my primary responsibilites are to prepare corporate and personal tax returns and to minimize tax liabilities. I am also proficienct in implementing general accounting functions for trade accounts, G/L accounts, and account reconciliation. My current function requires experience, precision and good teamwork, which are also crucial for the xxx position.

My enthusiasm for becoming an XXX was reinforced after talking to professionals at various levels in the XXX industry. As one of the top XXX firms, I am excited by the prospect of this opportunity.

I look forward to meeting you and further discussing this opportunity.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

XXX

just did a quick revision... see if there's any part you'd like to use.

I have a question, too. 😉
(OP, hopefully you don't mind.)

How much do companies really look into cover letters?
Do they want a lot of BS?

Let's say that I'm really entirely indifferent about where I want to work, I am generally not enthusiastic about much of anything at all, but that I've always been regarded as a productive, responsible, resourceful worker. What do I do for a cover letter? Lie? "OMG, me so horny for your company! Me work for you looong time!"

I would make sure you put in the actual name of the recruiting manager vs. generic dear recruiting manager.

And I would eliminate the second sentence of paragraph 1 as that's obvious and is just more noise till recruiter gets to your presentation of what you have to offer.

They probably read tons of cover letters and resumes, so you need to remove all the fluff and quickly and cogently present what job you are looking for and what you have to offer them (education, training, work experience).

Good Luck!

EDIT: I think I would type your name, address, e-mail address, and cell phone number right at the bottom, right above your signature, so if recruiter is inclined to contact you, info is right there.

Nothing says professional like a properly formatted business letter. Stick to the format exactly.
