Uh, it says 30,000.

And that seems totally reasonable to me. 30,000 is 1/2000th of 1 percent of the popualtion of the world.

Yep, 30k per day, which would be over 10mil per year. Got my numbers mixed up and will edit to correct.

BTW, this concert is specifically about Africa, not the whole world...if I'm reading it right. Says nothing about China, or any other poor place.

exactly. It's sad but it's just a law. This Earth cannot support a world full of wealthy, not hungry people (in the quantity we have now).

As sad as it is, if we solve cancer & AIDS, we're screwed.

Every day? Ten Thousand? That's over Ten Million per year.

Sounds far-fetched to me.

It's not just in the US dude. Think all of Africa, some parts of Asia. Ten million sounds like a lot but consider that the birth rate is something like 1.5 or 2% of the world's population per year... that's <=120 million people a year. I'm not trying to statisticize lives but as far as the world population is concerned, 10 million is peanuts

Not talking about the world, Live 8 is about Africa.

And the way I see it, the death rate of poor people is Darwinism at work. If they already can't feed themselves, why in the hell do they keep having children?
There are condoms available, and they don't use them. I know that isn't 100 percent effective, but it's a lot better than nothing.
That would stop a lot of the AIDS problem over there, too.
And it seems like our president signed the largest AIDS relief bill for AFrica, ever, not too long ago.
What more do they want us to do?
