Who actually keeps their Windows TaskBar on the side or the top of the screen??

I keep mine on the right side.

I actually started doing that after using BeOS and found that it works great. You can have alot of windows open without taking up your task bar and still read the text. Because the screen is wider than it is tall it's less obtrusive and programs with alot of taskbars end up with more usable space and less scrolling.

I use mine at the bottom, but I'd be open to moving it around maybe. Hmm, will have to move it around and see how it goes,

bottom, double-height, locked. i don't see how you could have it at the top.... that's where the "X" button is! It's very handy, when you have a program maximized, to just throw the mouse to the top right and click, knowing that it'll close the program without having to line it up exactly.

Bottom and autohide on. I can't stand it covering up my favorite games and taking up valuable screen space so that is the only option. Everyone that I've ever met personally with a non-standard position are freaks. I'm not saying that is true for everyone (especially those on this board), but it is just something that I've noticed over the years.

In Win98SE(the olden days) I always had it on autohide and either on the Left side or Top. The reason for this is that the top or side always seems closer and more easily accessible, but that's probably just me. I also had all Icons removed from my desktop and put 20-30 into my Quicklaunch! After growing tired of the Windows desktop interface, I switched to something you bottom always on top lovers would absolutely hate! Litestep! With Litestep there might be a bar or there might not be, it depends on my mood for the day.

Now that I'm using WinXP, I use Litestep for the user that I spend most of my time in(basically just websurfing). The User where I game or do other tasks is fairly standard WinXP, except I use the Classic interface(I hate WinXP's new Start menu), Autohide, but on the bottom(I haven't tried moving the bar). I also have a ton of Icons on the desktop, but have removed all direct links to Windows Explorer. The reason for the difference(from Win98SE) is that I want this particular user to be as easy as possible for another person to use without worrrying about them messing around with my files through Windows Explorer.

At work I have it on the right hand side because when I have 20 windows open it's just easier to run down a list to find the one I need.

At home it's normal.

I have one computer where it's at the bottom and another where it's at the top. For some reason, XP just looks better that way.

frankly, i don't see how anybody using dual monitors could place it anywhere but the middle. i have mine on the left side of my right monitor. it's so purdy

at work i have it at top. dunno why, i just like it there.

hmmm use Adobe products much? I run at 1600x1200, and I still find myself wishing for more real estate in Photoshop and Illustrator. I think I'll move to dual monitors soon.

Oh BTW I moved it to the left side, hidden, at work today (resolution is only 1024x768). I was very happy with the increase in usable space! But I hated how it would pop out when I didn't want it to. Oh well, I guess nothing can be perfect.

It belongs on the top. You can switch between apps and select from the app menus much quicker. The only stuff at the bottom is the status bar. Keeping the taskbar at the bottom is a throwback to Windows 3.x.
