Who actually buys these things??

Did you name your car Mandy? I drive 4k miles and it costs 12-15 for an oil change because I use coupons.

Yes I did. 😛 She's my salvaged baby. I've driven 10,000 miles and haven't gotten an oil change yet. O_O How much without coupons, and where do you find coupons? Are you in the SoCal area, by any chance?

Peace,

do those dent removal things work...? i actually thought about trying it...

i change my oil every 2500 miles... check it every fuel-up... oil change shouldn't cost more than 20 bucks...

I get coupons in valupak mailers and because I am a repeat users at some businesses. I woulnd't go 10k before changing oil. that's asking for trouble.

Yikes!! What will happen if I go on too much longer without an oil change? I'll get one this weekend.

depends on your car... if it becomes all nasty and stuff, i imagine it could cause lubrication problems...

Los Angeles... about 15 minutes away from Santa Monica/Venice. Kinda on the cusp of Culver City. I'll look for a Midus nearby online, thanks... I hope they're open tonight, maybe I can get one done after work. How long does it usually take?

Newer Honda instruction manual recommends 10k for normal driving, but for an older car, I don't think I'd go 10k. Actually I don't even go 10k in my Honda...

You get grit and junk in your oil, it lubricates less and starts to slowly chew up your engine. Take a look at the difference between dirty oil and clean oil, all that black stuff in dirty oil is carbon and stuff that has gotten into the system through a ton of different ways.

you can get a Mobil 1 synthentic oil change at walmart for $30
you save money and time, because you can go 10,000 miles between changes instead of 3000-5000 miles

mine took like 15-20 min... i'm near where you are.... living right off campus (ucla)... pretty much any oil change place will do... there's not really much mechanical savvy involved in changing oil... you drain, change oil filter, fill with specified amt. of oil, put all caps back on, start car... if turbo, you'd have to prime it... but that's about it...

edit: i usually do it myself, it takes maybe 30 min total to jack up the car, get under to the plug and do all the stuff, but my jack died... don't ask me how or why... and i had to get one before i went back to school, so i just stopped by a midas

I saw a commercial for that thing the other day and I couldn't stop laughing. I would never buy something like that.

I change my own oil.

used to do it but then apartment complex manager person saw me one day in the parking lot and got mad 🙁 said it was not allowed

My lease explicitly mentions that you can't do automotive repair work in the parking lot. I was never sure if it was to prevent people from competing with the body shop that is attached to the building, or because they don't want some stooge spilling crap all over the lot.

i think it's the latter... and prob'ly liability reasons as well

Wow... would you happen to have an extra coupon on you, by any chance? That's better than $29.95. Are they open past 6pm?
