I saw them live back in 1984ish. The opener was Quiet Riot. It was a pretty good concert as I remember enjoying it even though it was not my kind of music for the most part at the time. I was only there because the extremely hot girl I was dating loved them.

I guess that would depend on how you personally compare bands. To me they have to be the exact same type of band to compare head to head since I like a vast array of music. To me Whitsnake is more of a hard rock band that leaned heavy metal whereas Def Leppard was more of a hard rock band that was pop. I realize it is splitting hairs but just my opinion.
