Whiteman ($125m) vs Brown ($4m), can this be a fair contest?

Susan Collins, Libby Dole, Olympia Snowe, Lisa Murkowski, Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Nancy Kassebaum...

CallMeJoe, do you think the average voter has any fucking clue who any of those people are or do they know that Sarah Palin wrote a NY times best seller after running for VP on the Republican card? Do you think either party even considers a person like you when campaigning? No they're looking for the biggest idiots. The less you know, the more they want you to vote.

Those ads costing money has nothing to do with the fact she has to run those ads. She's running those ads because she's automatically at a disadvantage being a republican woman. You guys don't think so, but you guys are ignoring the fact that this was the image of the Republican Woman for the last few years.

Not to mention this is a big D state, even our republicans are in name only.

Not all Republican woman are batshait insane, mildly retarded or both.
The only reason the ones that grab the spotlight are insane is because they think the light is shined on them for other reasons.
I don't see that insanity with Whitman. I see someone who is power hungry and bored. I also see someone who is willing to be completely plastic to get elected and who is so inexperienced she painted herself into a corner with ultra-conservative rhetoric in a place that is ruled, as you said, by RINOs.

Edit: Excellent List CallMeJoe.

I'm not saying Whitman is as bad as Palin, I'm saying the average idiot voter thinks Sarah Palin when they hear Republican woman candidate. I realize not all republican women are like Sarah Palin.

Seriously wolf? She's a REPUBLICAN FEMALE. When you hear the words REPUBLICAN FEMALE. What pops into your head? Sarah Palin. Because she is a Republican Female it will be much tougher for her to break the mold of what the Republicans would normally like to throw in our face. Yes we have had Rs fill the governors seat for the last while, but I'm pretty sure our state senate and assembly have been filled by Ds for awhile now. Not to mention our federal representatives lean heavily towards the Ds.

It makes complete sense to me why it would cost Meg Whitman 125m to run a campaign here. I can't believe some of you, especially fellow Californians, are oblivious to that.

Doesn't matter that we have lots of D's in the state legislature. This is the gubnatorial race, and we usually elect R's to the state house, probably to counter-balance the D's in the legislature. As for the republican woman thing, I dunno, we'll see.

Good, because you know what corporations do when they get rich and do well? They hire, expand their operations, spend money, do research and did I mention hire?

I'd rather that than my money going to some welfare nut case who has no motivation to ever become a contributing part of society.

Fail. They move offshore where people work twice as hard for a tenth as much.

One thing that folks keep overlooking...Meg isn't "spending her own money," she's "loaning it to her campaign" with the expectation of being repaid...

This. You don't spend 120M for a job that pays $240,000 or in her case none without something on back end. Following her stocks locked inside Goldman Sachs "hands off" private equity fund will be interesting.

Brown as Governor was more a Fiscal Conservative than Reagan and provided the greatest budget surplus I know of for California...
His Moonbeam title came from some space thingi he pushed for and it was enacted subsequently... Think Linda gave it to him... in jest.
I see no issue that Whitman can 'call' Brown on other than perhaps the Death Penalty... Remember as Sec State he brought cases against ITT and others that was never before done by a Sec State... He IS someone who can get the job done here...
Outspending Brown is easy... out thinking him is the hard bit... He is one sharp cookie...

Brown is a cool cat and best chance CA has. Like Lunar says he is a fiscal conservative...more a libertarian with heart as such has best street creed to get unions and dems to capitulate to balance. Meg will be nothing but warfare and probably a recall.

bfdd's problem as he writes about how she 'needs to spend that much to win because she's at a disadvantage in a Democratic state' is his assumption she has the RIGHT to win.

She doesn't.

What I mean by that, is that Democracy is about the people picking who they want. Someone who's not who they want doesn't have a right to get elected anyway.

The phrase 'right to get elected' means 'in spite of the voters' preferences'.

His logic could be used to justify any wrong for someone to 'need' to do to get elected.

Imagine the head of the KKK decides to run, and understandably, has low poll numbers. If he then finds a way to spend 100 times more than his opponent, finds a way to steal votes, and so on, one could say, 'well he NEEDED to do those things to get elected'. This is meant to be extreme to point out the error in his logic.

Big money buying advertising is designed to DEFEAT Democracy by BUYING changes to public opinion, rather than what democracy is intended to do, give people their choice.

"I'm a billionare, I want to be governor to legalize eating puppies because they taste good. 5% of voters will vote for that. Here's a billion dollars - make tens of thousands of ads, that attack the opponent, that don't talk about puppy recipes but promise prosperity and other nice things, and change those poll numbers." He wins.

That's not real 'democracy'. That's Dollarmocracy. Her agenda is arguably far worse than new meaning to 'doggy bags' - to FURTHER bankrupt the state for the rich.

You're an idiot. Have you ever even heard of a labor union? No not the kind that sit on an assembly line. I'm talking like carpenters, millwrights, steel workers, etc. THOSE CANNOT BE SHIPPED OFF TO INDIA OR CHINA. Those jobs are done RIGHT HERE on the things we NEED to have here. For instance when I was a union millwright I worked mostly in refineries. Moron.

whoa. you sound like angry man. is sandy vagina a heritable condition in your family, or something? :p
