Actually, though Hess was probably a racist (a *lot* of people in 1930s Germany felt that way about the Jews), he was indeed an amazing person. Despite being Hitler's #2 man, and co-author of Mein Kampf, he was a pillar of responsibility in the Fuehrer's entourage.
He was eventually convicted for "crimes against peace," despite sacrificing his freedom with the hopes of ending the war. Ironic. You guys should read a book called Prisoner #7. It helps explain why an innocent man was mistreated for being a high-ranking Nazi.
Some said he was insane. Others that he had fallen from favor with Hitler. Many claim he was murdered in 1987 to protect Nazi secrets. Personally, I just think he was a man who was chewed up and spit out by post-war hostility.
