I had this same discussion in my honors race issues class when I was getting my bachelors degree. We basically came to the conclusion that TheBDB stated:
2) However we also have enough intelligence to know that we aren't perfect. Thus we know we have some flaws. The insinct is then to hope that your ways are correct - we hope that are arguments are right, that we do things perfectly, etc. If you hope you are doing things correctly then by definition you hope that people who do things differently are doing them improperly.
3) The hope that people different than you are not as good as you leads to the desire to be superior. People with blond hair feel that blonds are superior. People who are tall feel that tall people are superior. People who are strong feel that strong people are superior. Etc. Race is no exception.
I'm just putting forward a psychological theory - you don't need numerics or genetics to try to explain it.
1) Everyone has a built in feeling that they are doing things the way things ought to be done (if you felt you did things in an inferior way you'd change the way you did them). Thus everyone feels that people who disagree MUST be doing things in an inferior way. This leads to the false idea that you are superior to others. For example people almost always rate themselves as much better drivers than the rest of the world - but we cannot ALL be better than average.Originally posted by: TheBDB
I think there are examples that every race has some desire to be the superior race.
