White House denies relaxing torture ban

i'd love to see those responsible for authorizing these tactics to go through it themselves or one of their family members... and see if they'd still deny it being torture...

still more maddening is the fact that the administration has created an environment where 'rough interrogations' are encouraged... and the individual soldiers at the bottom are often left hung and dry when things get ugly (abu).

this is what happens when people start thinking that ends justify the means...

According to Google its the name of somebody who posts on AnandTech in the Politics and News forum.

Our whole emotional nature, our nerves, our hormones, our genes tell us the ends do justify the means, no.

The only place, it seems to me, where the ends don't justify the means, is in the world of reason and intelligence.

People, generally speaking, I know his makes me elitist, seem quite incapable of rational thought. Sorry, but I can't help seeing what I see. The average person, quite clearly to me, has never learned to think.

Everything the Bushwhacko Whitehouse says is known to be lies so the story is obviously true. 🙁

So we sink to their level?

Unless we're slicing their heads off on video, and broadcasting it, or hanging detainees from a bridge, or rolling them by in Jeeps and letting IEDs blow them up, I don't think we could ever be misconstrued as "sinking to their level".

Of course not, we just start false wars because we feel like it.

So we're sinking, just not quite as low as the terrorists. Good to know they're the baseline.

You're right, it is a stupid comparison. But you invite it every time you bring up the "at least we're not as bad as them" argument. What the terrorists do or do not do should IN NO WAY affect how we behave. They are so far outside of civilized behavior that even the comparison between us and them (even made in the defensive way you make it) is bad.

heh, dunno if it's correct but it's something to the effect of blinded truth...

Actually, your name as it is says "blind man truth". If you want it to say "blind truth" it should be "Caeca Veritas", as "veritas" is a feminine noun.

Well, as soon as the waterboarders are in a situation where they're at the mercy of a torturer who, for all they know, might kill them at will, and are thus terrified for their lives, I'll accept that they have gone "through it themselves".

did bush or cheney, or that stupid lawyer that wrote the legal memo on interrogation tactics go through it? (btw, waterboarding was the least of it - i mean reading some of the redacted transcripts from the interrogations make me sick!) if any of the other nations did what we did in guatanamo or abu (and also outsourcing outright torture to other countries), i have no doubt that our government would not hesitate to label that as torture.

Pabster: we live in a proud country. we are proud because we have principals. we live by those principals, believe in those principals, and die for those principals. our soldiers are out there risking their lives for those beliefs. and yet, our administration will go to any measure to erode those principals for the sake of security. bush has done more damage to our "way of life" than any terrorists ever could have hoped for...

Oh, you mean like the terrorists who are killing Americans?

Ah, so you're claim is that we torture only those who are actually terrorists who are actually killing Americans?

Edit: Not that that the claim, even if true, would in any way justify torture.

Don't despair. You are still the person who posts on AnandTech that Google mentioned.
