Vice President Biden wasn't talking about jobs when called this the "summer of recovery." He was talking about construction projects.

That's the explanation top White House economic adviser Austan Goolsbee gave when asked about the more than 280,000 jobs lost over the past three months.

"The vice president was talking about the summer of recovery in reference to the Recovery Act, that you would see the creation of a series of infrastructure and other projects ramping up over the summer," Goolsbee said on "Fox News Sunday." "And you did see that."

Wow. Who really believes this explanation???

Stimulus working: Biden

WASHINGTON - VICE-PRESIDENT Joe Biden said on Thursday that the US economic recovery is on track and that the huge stimulus measure enacted last year 'is working' despite criticism of the plan.
'The fact is the Recovery Act is working,' Mr Biden told a news conference as the administration kicked off a six-week series of events called 'Recovery Summer', to highlight the numerous infrastructure programs funded by the US$787 billion (S$1.09 billion) plan.
'We've gone from haemorrhaging over 700,000 jobs a month the first several months we got here and turned on the lights in the West Wing here, to adding more - several hundred thousand jobs a month the last several months.'
Mr Biden said that the US economy as measured by gross domestic product 'was shrinking at 6.4 per cent the first quarter we came into office' but that it 'grew three per cent last quarter, and averaged four percent over the last three quarters'. Mr Biden said the bill enacted in February 2009, of which US$620 billion has been allocated, is still stimulating growth and jobs.
'As a result, the Recovery Act is responsible for somewhere between 2.3 million and 2.8 million jobs that were either saved or created,' he said. 'So, folks, the act is working.'
But he said that the upcoming summer season 'is actually poised to be the most active Recovery Act season yet, with tens of thousands of projects underway across the country that will help to create jobs for American workers and economic growth for businesses, large and small'. Mr Biden and President Barack Obama are to participate in more than 20 groundbreakings and ceremonies for projects funded by the plan in the coming days. -- AFP

Has Biden done anything in his career that wasn't an embarrassment to this administration?

BREAKING -- OBAMA, BIDEN DECLARE “RECOVERY SUMMER”: Vice President Biden today will kick off “Recovery Summer,” a six-week-long push designed to highlight the jobs accompanying a surge in stimulus-funded projects to improve highways, parks, drinking water and other public works. Biden will present President Obama with a report laying out a spike in stimulus activity this summer, and how it will contribute to a steady climb to a total of 3.5 million Recovery Act jobs by the end of the year. Biden, Obama and other administration officials will travel to more than two dozen Recovery Act project sites in coming weeks. Tomorrow, the president will travel to Columbus, Ohio, to mark the groundbreaking of the 10,000th Recovery Act road project, around Nationwide Children’s Hospital. On Monday, Biden will travel to Midland, Mich., for the groundbreaking of the new Dow Kokam advanced battery manufacturing facility.

--David Axelrod said: “This summer will be the most active Recovery Act season yet, with thousands of highly-visible road, bridge, water and other infrastructure projects breaking ground across the country, giving the American people a first-hand look at the Recovery Act in their own backyards and making it crystal clear what the cost would have been of doing nothing. … In the face of the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression, Republicans in Congress chose to play politics with economic recovery and declared the Recovery Act a failure before it even began. They made a cynical bet that if the President fails, they win. Democrats chose to act by tackling the crisis head-on. Just over a year later, the Recovery Act is putting millions of Americans to work and helping the economy grow again. But our work is far from over.”

Let's see here.

1) HC reform was supposed to save us money, it doesn't
2) ARRA was supposed to keep unemployment below 8% and create jobs, it didn't
3) Consumer protection laws were supposed to keep banks/creditors from charging fees, yes, but it just moved the fees elsewhere to responsible people
4) Financial regulation was supposed to open up capital, report out today says the opposite is going to happen, less money for lending

How many other big steaming piles of shit lies are we going to get from this administration?

I drove cross country twice this year. Coast to coast, mostly on the 40 but hit a lot of other major highways along the way. I can say for sure that there was an ass load of construction. There was also a lot of absolutely nothing getting done. It looked as if the projects started when I left in Jan. and in June on the way home they simply stopped. Most if not all of the projects looked like they got under way and the money dried up. The heavy equipment was gone or looked like it was sitting idle in a state of disrepair. (I am a diesel mechanic and work on tracked combat vehicles) I was unsure a few times so I stopped and looked around on some of the dozers and graters. They hadn’t moves in weeks if not months. Not sure what is going on but it sure isn’t work or jobs.

Sounds a lot like North Korea.

I never bought what was being sold about the recovery, so I don't feign surprise or confusion like you do.

I don't think anybody is surprised by this type of back-track anymore. It's become as predictable as the sunrise. Evan Castro is giving it a try.

so they're now starting to spend the larger portion of the stimulus money they voted on a year and a half ago?

So you knew Biden was lying through his teeth all summer too?

He's a politician, so I don't believe much of anything he or any other politician says. The difference between me and you on this is that I don't pretend I believed him just so I can make a post on a forum about it.

Political pundits and talk radio personalities don't carry much water with me, either.
